Default Anyone have experience with integras?

Hello all---

I'm picking up a 94 integra LS, this weekend. Its gonna be the DD/beater.

Its got a really good maintenence history, however the timing belt has never been replaced. It was never driven hard, and old asian lady had it before my female friend bought it from her and she never drove it hard either.

So I've gotta pick it up from tampa, i'm going to gainesville for the weekend and then back home.

its got 120k miles on it, but the belt shoulda been replaced by 90k.

Question 1: Should I be worried about driving the car on that 450mile trip this weekend?? As soon as I get it home I'll start working on the belt before I do any more driving with it.

Question 2: I'm somewhat handy with tools, theres a pretty nice DIY for the integra waterpump/timing belt change on team-integra.net. I'm sure i can tackle it, but does anyone have any experience with integras that could offer some experience/help when i start doing the job???

Question 3: If the price isn't astronomical, I would consider paying someone to do it, does anyone know of any place that could do this for a decent price? Parts are cheap, but its the labor thats gonna kill me.

Thanks for any help you guys can offer guys!!!

I used to have one, great car lil to no problems. But change it anyways cuz you never know. Try Honda Tech in plantation on 441 just north of broward blvd. I always take my and my parents cars there. Real cool people.

I have a buddy that works at Braman Honda and owns an integra LS/VTEC. So he knows what he's doing. Let me know if you're interested.

i am interested, i'm just not gonna spend a crap load of money to put in a $70 part.

ask him how much he'd want to do the job for me.

also the primary concern here, is is it safe to drive it on that 450mi trip?

LOL --- Not sure its worth taking the chance????

Spending an extra $300 in labor in tampa is still cheaper than replacing or rebuilding a motor in whats supposed to be a cheap DD/beater....

As for the cost of the belt, I dont screw around with non-oem parts for major mechanical pieces like that... its $60 bucks online everyhere = shipping ~ $70

any one else can offer some advice?

It should be safe to drive no problems. Just take it easy.

I would not worry about the drive home, but change the belt soon. The motors can be had for around $300, just in case you blew this one up. Be careful about the timing belt job. The crank pulley bolts can be a real pain in the butt. This series of Honda motors run counter-clockwise and the crank pulley bolts can tighten over time.
