Sorry, I dont wanna be the negative sign of the threat but I do not agree at all with ur statement MAV. I know thats what most of you were told but from personal experince Im telling you that its not true. In Public School they give excellent education, at least from where I graduated (Sunset High). and yes they are the crappy ones but the same goes for private and the truth I dont think its worth paying a ton of money just to be teached the same or less. Also it all depends on school staff and other things. I know a private school where the kids are just the dumbest thing with its exceptions like everywhere else. In public school they prepare students to pass the FCAT but also beyond cuz I had teachers that gave us so much input about life after High School and Im very thankful. Like I said before it all depends where you go and if you are willing to pay money or have the money to pay. Well and about the Columbus Explorers I have to agree with MAV cuz the few people I know that have been to Columbus seem to like exploring guys anus .LOL

This is where I disagree...

The education is definitely NOT the same. Not even remotely close. At Belen when I was there, I had to take the SAT and I had to apply for college. I wasn't given a choice, it was a requirement. I had an army of counselors at my disposal... academic, college prep, guidance, spiritual. Class sizes were small, I think the biggest was about 25. The teachers actually cared, and created a very competitive atmosphere so that we would want to do better than the next guy. We were taught to be successful and to be the best. My graduating class was 107 men, 0 drop outs, 0 failed out. When I went to my high school reunion recently, being around my old friends, everyone in attendance (85% of the class showed up) was very successful at their chosen profession, in large part due to our education we received.

Now say the same about a public school... you just can't. Public schools, SAT and college are optional. They don't care if you go or not. Class sizes are huge, so big and overcrowded, some schools have to use trailers. Some teachers care but some don't. I don't blame them, with all the thugs, gang bangers, violence and school shootings, I wouldn't care either. Class sizes are usually a few to several hundred. Drop out and failed rates are high. A public school environment with all the thugs and violence going on, isn't exactly good for education. There are students who thrive in public schools, but those are the ones who want to be better and more than they are.

The education received at most private schools, like Belen, Columbus and Lourdes, are worth every penny and more. Not to mention the prestige you receive by being a graduate of a well known private school. Looks good on a resume.

Wow this all got started from S2kfavi wanting a badge on his posts.

Ok, we all need to consider when we want something, where it might possibly go.lol

Now on behalf of all the public and private school alums, ivy league and non-ivy league alums, homosexual and heterosexuals (hope I didn't leave anyone out) let us all shake hands (group hug if comfortable) and move on.

I guess as long as this debate of public verus private schools remain an intelligent discussion and non-offensive, its OK to discuss.
