Good points everyone. I did have some aftermarket rims, but that's it. Bottom line was that even if I would have taken it back with the OEM rims (which I still had) their offer was still $3000 less than what I got from the first person who answered my AutoTrader.com ad. One item in the PITA category: I did have to go back and forth from the bank to the tag agency with the new buyers. That took a few hours. It was worth it for me though. I guess it depends on how much you value your time. I invested about a work day's worth of time between the visits from the buyer to see the car, phone calls back and forth with the buyer, and the closing day tasks. $3,000/day=

I also agree that CarMax offers a great service for those interested in hassle-free sale or purchase of their car. They were real cool about the appraisal process. No preassure whatsoever. Ditto for an experience I had when shopping for Jeep a couple months back.

I've gone 3 different times with 3 different cars to Carmax for quotes and all 3 were lower than the dealers.

As far as them calling and hassling you after, it never happened to me.

Carmax offered me $4000 for my '99 Miata. I sold it a week later privately for $6800. Yeah, it was a PITA but for an extra $2800 it was worth it.

One cool thing about Carmax appraisals is that you get to keep a copy of the inspection report. I put link to my Miata's report on the ebay auction and checked the "this car has been inspected" box. That really helped with the sale, which was to a guy from out of state. That alone is reason enough to let Carmax appraise your car.

That car shouldn't be hard to sell with the summer coming up, put a decent price on it and AutoTrader, it'll go quick...
