I have a less expensive idea. However I do not want to discuss it in an open forum.

here is the problem with marking seats.... i don't care of you see a seat in a civic or any other car that looks like yours. you can't get the police or anyone else to search the car or check the seats.... they have no right. the police can't search someones car just because the seats are S2000 seats... there has been many threads about this in the main forum.

These ids use an ultraviolet marker. So you shine a light on it..
And it lights up saying there is an ID tag on it.

So Basically.. the ID marker will be in plain view.

Wrong. If you can prove the seats are stolen property you can most certainly
get the police involved. Your analogy John would be akin to losing $20K in
stereo gear from a house theft and hearing your equipment being used at a block party three streets down, two days later and not being able to do a damn thing about it. We both know that isn't the case.
The whole idea of marking the seats is to PROVE that they once belonged to someone else. I agree there isn't much you can do AFTER the fact once seats are stolen and you have no identifying marks but ANY identification on them would, at the very least, slow down this insepid rash of seat thefts. However, it is my contention that in the best interests of S2000 owners, they should CLEARLY ID their seats in addition to a secondary method (more hidden). A two-pronged attack if you will. Markings that are hidden won't prevent thefts until enough word got around that all
seats in the area are being marked. Until then, it's best to find ways to
PREVENT the theft in the first place. I stand by my original suggestion that
some S2000-inspired embroidery would be sufficient to at least, make
the punks think twice. If they're stealing seats in the first place, chances
are they don't have the cash to have 'em reskinned.
Either way, if mine get stolen, God forbid I don't catch the punks since
I'd probably end up in jail for maiming them for life. It hasn't been THAT
long since I've twisted a head. That's Nikki's big fear, that I actually
catch 'em. Knowing the legal system, it would be ME who would end
up behind bars.

If they have probable cause (i.e. a seat from a different car in your car) they can search. Seats are in plain view, so its hard to hide 'em.

Yeah- I heard about this on the radio yesterday- and ogt really interested- I was gonna try to hunt down the site myself- however- my understanding is that only a few police stations are actually purchasing the readers- without which you cant identify the codes on the dot. My understanding is that only coral gables PD was handing them out (1 handfull free of charge to each household), and only they would have the technology to actually do anything with the dots afterwards. Correct me if I am wrong- but thats what I got out of NPR.

True. Magnifying glass and UV lamp.
I'll post my results when I get them in.
