US?? WTF? Since when were you included in the gift exchange?? I don't know what you are talking about.... but I do have Tommy's gift. You can blame HIM for that one, since i asked if he needed something towards the wedding and he said No!

I got Tommy in trouble... hahahaha

If you still need help and live in Miami, you can drop your box off at my place, and I'll take a look at it. I'm not a certified tech, but I do have over 6 computers networked at my house and have built them all.
Thanks for the offer but the guy who does our office computers picked it up yesterday and taking a look at it for me. If i do have any other problems.. i'll let you know.

Thanks again!

Question: Got a Windows XP disk from work. If I install it on my computer (currently Windows 98) Will I loose any data or programs?

^ You shouldn't but installing WinXP can be tricky so there are no guarantees.

i think the last time i installed winxp, the program would only work for 30 days unless i registered with microsoft. you might have a problem using "borrowed" software that requires you to register. there may be a way around that process, but it was beyond my computer skill level.

Microsoft would like you to believe that the transition is seamless, but it rarely ever is so. You have to check to make sure all your hardware is WinXP compatible and that your computer meets the minimum requirements to install Windows XP. On paper, you shouldn't lose much, but some programs that work in Windows 98 aren't supported on Windows XP and vice versa, so you would have to reinstall some programs. I would suggest copying over your pertinent files onto another harddrive or burn them on to a DVD/CD, and then starting from a fresh install by formatting your computer. It's the least problematic solution. Install and updates/service packs should take about 3 hours on a broadband connection. If you need further help, feel free to contact me.
