if you get that rx7, consider getting a 3 in dp right away and upgrade that radiator. not that reliable if you ask me..
if you get an fd get the cheapest one you can and spend the rest of the cash on rebuilding the engine and turbos right away. If you want to use it as a daily and keep it reliable get the 3mm apex seals, a bigger aluminum radiator, and keep the boost near stock levels and you should be okay. Its a hard bet as the prices of used s2000s keep coming down though, and even stock for stock the reliability isnt on par.

That would be a tough decision for me. Ive owned an FD, I own an s2k, I also own an rx-8, and an FC. I used the FD as a DD for almost a year without a single problem; however, I did fix the weak links (plastic radiator, crappy IC). The Mazda Apex seals are great no need to build an engine without anything else unless you are going really crazy, the stock apex seals have been proven to hold up to 500hp, and the are very easy on the housings without causing chatter marks. Also, since they are 3 pieces if you blow one it doesnt usually eat the rotors, irons, or housings. Rotaries have a bad rap as being unreliable, but the truth of the matter is that they arent as bad as people think. I had many over-revs in my RX-7's and never any issues, I had many boost spikes (especially in the FD) and no issues. My only problem now with the FC is that there arent any good tuners around that can work with a MicroTech.

Sorry that was a bit of a rant! I just love my rotaries...That and I may be the only person that has blown a Honda engine quicker than a rotary.

Thank you for stating your experiences, I heard they can be reliable if you mod it the "right" way

Yeah they arent bad at all. They do require you to be on top of your maintenance. Also, if you get one and need a mechanic let me know. The rotary world is a shady place. Everyone talks shit about everyone, and everyone is full of shit. They mechanic Ive always used is a stand up guy, he builds great engines, and knows anything you could possibly know about rotaries, he just cant tune a MicroTech.
