DaWorm, I don't think it was meant as a "time saver", but just more of a "sanity saver".

But I've got the best sanity saver of them all.....a flight from FLL to Knoxville.

Miami to Alcoa

13 hours 21 minutes (not likely with our crew)

Lorton to Alcoa

7 hrs 58 minutes

A much easier drive after a nights rest IMO. It's those last 5 hours that suck.

Plus it's be fun to have a few more runs in mountain roads, that's why we're going right?

It's worth the drive. I found myself going up there 3 times a year. So, to save myself time, I decided to move to Charlotte to cut down on the drive time.

You guys have to do this at least once, especially since The Dragon may be endangered by a high speed highway in the near future, making The Tail of the Dragon possibly extinct.

No matter what, you just should try it at least once. After you do it once and drive the road and meet the people, you'll want to do it again. Look at your other S. Florida peeps who are doing this trip more than once.

First off...

its not a bad idea for those living near sanford...

Its close to a 17 hour train ride... from 4pm -> 8am the next morning...

now there is 'load' time... so add 2 hours up front...

For the price... if its that important.. get a hotel.. its probably cheaper....

Last year when i tried to do the group pricing.. they required that I have all the names and a commitment before they would give me a rate. Obviously... flexibility an issue... I didn't pursue it much further...

Esp w/ a 17 hour train ride...

I might consider going that alternative 'fun' georgia route myself this year...

It's not about saving time, it's about having a better time. It's actually better for you southerners 'cause it breaks up the most boring part of the trip: Florida.
Georgia is pretty much time also.
