Default Dragon Run - Caravan

Due to the PM's that I am receiving, I decided to put into print an invite to all the folks that may find our schedule appealing. This will be so that any along the way or, even at the hotel on Thursday night, we can meet and greet. Here is our tentative schedule:

04/20/06 - Thursday
; meet on I-75 and exit 301, Cracker Barrel. This is the Brooksville exit where Hwy 98 intersects I-75. Leave and on the road by 8:00 AM.

Travel north on I-75 through Florida all the way to Macon, GA. Several stops for gas and bodily necessities.

In Macon, get off the interstate and take Hwy 129 going north. This eventually integrates with 441 to Athens, GA. Take the loop around the city and follow 441 to Dillard, GA where we will stay at the Holiday Inn Express. Get a reservation from Jane @ 706.746.3585. Should arrive by 5:00PM. Still may be time for a few warm up twistees if everyone wants to !!

04/21/2006 - Friday; try to leave by about 8:30 AM and take 246/106 going eatsward to Highlands. Pick up 28/64 going west to Franklin. Continue on 28 out of Franklin to Hwy19. Turn left and only go about 2-3 miles to where 28 picks up again, turning right. This takes you to Fontana Village where we bunk down for the next two nights. This appetizer stretch is about 2.5 hours with stops and provides fantastic sights and thrills. We'll be at the Dragon by 11:00 AM on Friday and with the morning run tease, we'll be ready to Shread The Dragon for the remainder of the day before check in.

*The same Hwy 28 from Fontana is about 15-20 minutes to the Dragon, takes you right there.

So, if anyone would like to meet up along the way or just at the hotel on Thursday night or, Friday morning, add to this thread/topic. We'll put the details together closer to the actual trip.

Have fun guys! Fontana should be much nicer as well as they are under new ownership there. I'll be up there this summer (timeshare), but can't make this trip. The dragon should be beautiful in April. It's pretty cold up there now, they've been covered in snow for a while.

Also for those of you staying in Dillard on the way up, if your looking for a good meal you can't beat the Dillard House for dinner that night or breakfast the next day, family style all you can eat food with fresh meats, vegtables, fruits, and desserts. A little pricey though, about $20 a person.

Though working in Tampa, I'll be mobilizing at my house in Sebastian (Gotta bring the +1 ) And will be leaving there sometime Thursday AM, and taking 528 from the E. Coast to arrive on the turnpike at Orlando then on up to the I-75 junction. Hopefully I'll be able to meet up with whoever is coming up from S. Florida and then possible hook up with the W. Coasters somewhere N of Orlando. My booking at Fontana is only Fri-Sat, so I am into staying N of Atlanta Thurs night.
Hopefully things will start to gel in a couple of weeks.
(It's all dependent on me not taking a job offer in Hawaii and having to leave before the Dragon event)
