Default first oil change

So it's time to treat my S to its first oil change, and I was looking for some advice.

The car only has a few thousand miles on it- but its an '00, should I keep normal oil in it, or should the seals be ready for synthetic? It hasn't really lost any oil in the 2 months i've had it. Do you guys think that synthetic is really worth the premium?

Any thoughts on that Semi-synthectic stuff?

Do you guys actually replace the crush washers on the oil pan drain bolt at every oil change?

I'd still wait until 8-10k miles before switching over. The car may be 4 yrs. old, but I would base it off of engine use. I use synthetic (Penzoil), mostly because that's what the previous owner of my S used. He started using synthetic after putting around 10k miles on it.

Another vote for not switching to synthetic until 10k miles.

I have all the stuff in my garage for an S 2000 oil change, including a jack to fit under our low cars, jack stands, OEM filter and crush washer. You're welcome to come over for a quick service, just bring 6 quarts of Castrol (or other dino oil) in 10W 30 and reimburse me for the stuff you use. Give me a call if you're interested - since I'm on Spring Break I have a bunch of time on Thursday and Sunday.

I agree with the wait also. (Like it matters, once Coraldoc talks everything else is kinda trivial.lol) Seriously, everyone told me to switch after 10k also. I went with Mobil1 Synthetic in the engine and in the differential. No problems and happy with the performance!

Good luck!

I have 3800 miles on my 04'. The last two mornings I noticed a fair amont of white smoke on start-up. Doesn't happen after parking it for several hours at work. Just in the colder morning air. Notice some oil loss (less than 1/2 qt) and the oil is reddish. VTEC it a few of times (6-7). Is it normal to see oil loss already?

The first 3000 and even there after you will see significant amounts of oil loss... you must check your oil level at EVERY fuel fill up.

Thanks guys - I guess Ill wait a few more miles before making the change-

Thanks CoralDoc for the offer, it's really cool of you- I think I'll be OK over here though, just need to pick up some of those crush washers from honda before doing it.....and trade in the $30 worth of synthetic I had already bought at discount auto parts!
