*** In short it comes out Feb. 22 for the USDM ****
I'm glad I got the Japanese version though, I've always preferred the JDM GT releases over the US ones (better music, more features sometimes). Too bad my old modded PS2 went byebye so I had to import a new JDM PS2 along with GT4. And according to Polyphony Digital, there will be several other variations of GT4 (kids, tuning, professional) only available in the Japanese market b/w now until PS3 and GT5 are released.
Amazing! Running at its native 480i, the graphics are slightly better than GT3's but if you have HDTV and switch over to 16:9 and 1080i resolution - WOW! Jagged edges are gone, everything is smooth and clean cut. GT4 is definitely pushing the old PS2 to its limit.
The interface is completely redesigned and looks very good. Cars backfire with flames shooting out of the exhaust. The crowd and pit crew is 3D and animated.
The license tests are back with 80 tests in total (16 per license, 5 licenses in total) but they are no where as difficult as the past GT's. Having the Logitech GT Force Pro definitely helped here. In about 4 hours of playing last night I was able to obtain the Domestic B, A and International B, A licenses. Most of them I passed on the first attempt, a few were a bitch. Most of my times were mixed b/w Silver and Bronze.
Photomode is a great addition and I'll probably spend a lot of time there.
GT4 is much more than I anticipated, best game ever period.
Heres my first car - 1983 Toyota Sprinter Trueno GT-Apex "Hachi Roku".
2001 Honda S2000 Type V with BBS LM's - found this in the used car lot with 38K KM on the odo and it came WITH mods (intake/exhaust and suspension package).
