Default Having car problems Need help!

First off I would like to say hello to anyone reading this and thank you for your time.

A few months back I bought my s2k (2000 red) and I'm loving it. I used to be in the whole modification scene with my sr20det 92 hatch fully custom interior, exterior, suspension, turbo setup... blah blah.

Long story short a 15 year old girl crashed into me and drove me into a wall (luckily I had my 4 pt harness). Insurance company gives me 3g's for a car I had dropped well over 20k into.

After sueing the crap out of her I decided to get an s2k because I figured it would still be something fun to drive, good on gas, and most importantly, reliable.

I got what I thought was a decent buy. Been driving it for a few months now. Of course no used car comes without its own set of problems. There's kind of a rattling sound that the car has when I downshift or let off the gas and it's lowering through the higher rpms. I think it might be related to the clutch/flywheel or something with the transmission. Anyhow, it doesn't affect driving at all so I didn't pay much attention to it.

The only other problem was that it had a coolant leak. It started off real minor, but now I can refill it one day and 2 days later the tank is all but empty. Since then, the car emits a really really strange smell that has caused this alarm to rise. It's coming form the engine bay and it smells like a burning smell. I usually smell it when I come to stop lights (strong), and the smell lingers when I pop the hood and check around. The best way I can describe the smell is when electronics smell like they're about to burn out. I know it's not the coolant smell, which is there as well of course considering the leak, but this is different, overpowering, and quite worrying.

At first I thought it was maybe the engine overheating but the temp gauge doesn't show a rise in temp. There's no smoke either in the engine bay or through the exhaust.

I'm hoping it's not a big deal but I would like to have someone take a look at it to get this squared out before it does turn into a big deal (if it isn't already). If anyone knows a shop or anyone I can contact that could look into this in the dade county area I would really appreciate it. I'm located in Kendal if that helps any.

Thanks a lot for your time!

1. Sounds like you have the clutch deceleration buzz. It was common in MY2000 and early 2001 cars. It does not affect performance or reliability, but it can sound annoying. Honda came out with an updated friction disk that solves the problem, but you'll need to install it (not easy) and might as well change the pressure plate at the same time.

2. Sounds like a coolant leak. Track down where the coolant is leaking from - use a strong light and patience - and then we can advise on the repair.

Wow you guys are quick. I take a power nap before logging in to take some online quizes for school and bam already some replies. Thanks alot guys!

The car has about 66,000 miles on it. No mods, I have redlined the car maybe once (my 240 redlined at like 6,800 still getting used to the longer gears )

I switched the oil to synthetic a little less than 1k miles ago.

I don't really know the hoses/gaskets and all that which the coolant courses through so I really haven't been able to pinpoint the coolant leak. I know what coolant smells like, and this smell that I'm trying to describe is definitely not coolant (though you can def smell the coolant separately).

Where are these meets at? Time? Despite depicting a "burning" smell would it be safe to drive there?

Hmm wonder how I'll explain this to my gf without her thinking I'm ditching her to go racing or something (she knows how I used to be with my 240). Thanks a lot for the quick responses! People seem a lot nicer than the nissan counterparts I dealt with in the past heh

How do I get map for this? I saw the directions on the post but I'm not familiar with the area. I tried mapquesting towers shops.. ale house. Nothing.

Sounds like it's quite a drive for me.. I probably shouldn't be driving like that on a highway considering I've described a burning smell, no?
