Default I'm Moving To Miami Next Week!

What's up peeps? Well the big day is almost upon me: I'll be leaving the Seattle area on May 25th. I'm getting transferred to the Boeing flight training center near Miami airport.

Can any of you recommend a good, safe area to live? I'm thinking the Doral area which is close to work although living near the water sounds appealing. Looking at a 1 bedroom apartment for now and I definitely need a garage or a secure parking structure.

And the one gripe I have before even arriving is that there are no TWISTY ROADS in South Florida! At least none that I can find on Google maps anyway. I hate driving an S in a straight line!

LOL funny you mention the lack of twisty roads. Even in NY the highways have some decent turns and there are always back roads in upstate NY outside of NYC. That is a major gripe for me down here. But anyway ... I just relocated here myself from NY just over 6 months ago.

A garage or secured gated parking is a must down here in FL since theft is high. I would invest in an alarm pager. I already had one since I lived in NY and that is pretty standard up there.

In terms on where to live many will have different opinions. Where you live will be largely depend on your budget. South FL could be pretty pricey compared to other areas of FL. Not sure what you are used to over on the west coast. A one bedroom could range anywhere from 1200 and up depending on where you want to live and how nice of an area you want.

Try using Trulia app or looking online. I found my place by a simple google search.

Had a house in Doral Isles for a year or so, was a pretty secure area as it took me over an hour to get past the gate even with the same last night and knowing every question the first time I tried visiting the family. Beware of the speed bumps, ALL of the speed bumps.

Now we're down in Palmetto Bay and same thing, no complaints thus far but we're no longer in a gated community either.

Garage, good alarm, insurance. Done deal.

You need 3 things on your car before you come down to south florida.

1. Seat Locks
2. Car alarm with pager
3. Full car insurance coverage including theft

Then when you are picking a place to live. Make sure that it either
has a car garage or that you have full coverage on the car so if
it gets stolen, you have money from the car insurance. I hate
to say it but that's a must in south florida.
