That works if the person uses your stolen laptop to connect to the internet. Then, based on the IP address, the software alerts the monitoring center to your area. (Ever get adds that say Kendall, Opa Locka, Hialeah, Dade, etc and wonder how they know you live there?)

The problem is that most thieves (NO! I dont know this from experience ) wipe the laptop and resell them.

LoJack found a hardware-based solution that is actually embedded into the bios, so even though you wipe out the drive the PC is not gonna work not unless you change the motherboard.
