Default Looks like I'm the third.....

Hey all.
Well, they always say that stupid sh!t happens in 3s. Make sure you mark me down as the unlucky third. I get home today from picking up Dave and see this:

The bumper was all scuffed & scratched on the back driver's side corner and it looked like it was shifted forward.

Dave was able to pull the bumper back to where it had to be (one of the screws was out of alignment & when we put it back in right & tightened it up, it went back into position). This is what I'm left with now - two nice gouges:

So what happened? Well, I have been asking myself that and the only thing that we can come up with is that someone must've backed into it last night at BB. I washed my car yesterday (so I know it wasn't there then), went to BB last night, and didn't go out today except to pick up Dave and I know I didn't back into anything or have someone back into me. Last night at BB, I was in the same spot as Keith was when someone backed into his car a week ago. Lesson learned.....the hard way.

Now the question is who to have fix it? Anybody have suggestions & ideas on how much $$$ I'm looking at shelling out for my stupidity?

Thanks!

~Kim~

Kim, what a lot of people don't know is that the OEM rear bumper's pretty cheap. It's lilke $240 or something like that. From the photos, touch up paint and a good buff will do the trick. My guess is $175 to do the job!

Kim...

Sorry...

But I know exactly how much...

$288 to remove and completely refinish the bumper. Thats the non-hookup price I got from a second shop.

You want me to see if I can get a volume discount at the place mine's going in Boca? I'm dropping off Monday. If you want to take it to the place mines going it will be more like $230-$240. Yours might be cheaper because its not pearl paint.

Will the whole bumper need to be refinished? I was wondering if it could be done just on the areas that got messed up. I've heard the metallic colors are a b!tch to match up.....definitely not looking forward to this.

that really sucks........I worked in a body shop for years and to answer your question you should refinish the whole bumper and make sure they properly blend the paint to any conecting panels ....Keiths shop should be able to do it and $230 is a good price.....

Matching the color is a hit or miss proposition...it all depends on how good the painter is and if he's having alucky day. My rear bumper was repainted, but he matched it so well you'd never be able to tell. If it scratched down to the black plastic, the whole bumper should be repainted...I had mine done in Boston for $150, but evidently mid-200's here seems to be the going rate.

Kim if you want it perfect you need to refinish the whole bumper. No real body shop will try and do just a part of it.

I tried to touch mine up, and I wet sanded it, buffed it, and it still didn't look good. Those scratches are down to the plastic bumper, and cannot be buffed out.
