Default Moving from NY to Florida, help with where to live

Hey guys, need your advice.

Im going to be living down in West Palm Beach half the week. (hotels & car rentals are getting too expensive).

Need advice on where to live.

I work near Okeechobee & N. Military. Need to be within a 20 minute drive.
Any nice gated communities?
Ample parking is necessary.

Should i bring my s2k down? How bad are thefts down there? NY is bad but my area is great, i parked my s2000 outside for the past 5 years with no issues.

You should go back to NY! Jk bro. Welcome to SoFlo and yes theft is high here. Off street parking is recommended but from one former NY guy to another, we know what precautions to take. Your about 30 min away from me so I'm not to familiar with west palm.

Your best bet is to drive around while your here and hit the internet for apt. The market works different than NY with a saturated amount of agents and you will find it easier to deal with the leasing offices directly.

Best of luck and I wouldn't park an S outside here. At least in a gated community is fine. Crime is crazy here and most of the low lives here are either really bold, stupid or just don't care. Oh and you can carry down here with proper permits

Just make sure you have a garage. Thats the only way Im able to sleep at night. I live in a gated community and still would never leave my car out of the garage at night. The 1/GTI should be safe on the street but the S is like a gold mine to these good for nothing lowlives down here.

I grew up in Rosedale, what part of queens you from?

Im leaving the GTI, M, and Exige in NY. Getting a new DD for florida (idk what yet, something cheap to lease) & the s2k.

I was born & raised in Jamaica, Queens. Lived in Long Island City (college) for awhile. Have a house now in LI and a apartment in manhattan.

Part time is great. I didn't think I would miss NY so much but I do. If given the chance I would move back up in a heart beat even though I am getting more for my money here. The agents here keep saying that SoFlo (especially Miami) is just like NYC. HELL NO! They say that to jack up prices but nothing is comparable. Sure maybe Star island and some beach front properties are just as pricey but for what you get there is no comparison. For what you would get here on the beach you get a third of the size in NYC and no damn beach. LOL

Oh word!? I grew up in Woodside then moved to Rego Park then Forest Hills then out to the burbs in Nassau County LI before I came here. Queens is still the best place to live in NY if you ask me. I was living in Forest Hills and had it all at a walk/drive/train ride distance. Here.. I have to drive to the damn corner store lol

I grew up in east ny brooklyn, its not as nice as forest hills or rego park but the thieves live there and go to your neighborhood shopping, only people we worry about breaking into cars are the crack heads and police. My last 2 years in ny I lived in the lower east side (ave d) and I loved it down there but the parking tickets just kill you

LOL yeah man my insurance agent broke it down best when he said .. thieves don't go to bad areas to steal. I used to roll threw East NY and Knickerbocker ave back in the day. Aaahh good times

Love LES. Good hang out spots over there. I am already planning my trip back to NY come Spring.
