Thumbs up Oil question...

I am curious, what were to happen if you used regular oil then switched to semi-synthetic oil, then switched back to regular oil?? Does it cause a problem?? Will everything be OK???

And to answer the next OBVIOUS question.. NO this has not happened to me. It's a curious question incase I do it, and later switch back. I know synthetic is a lot better.. but throwing it out incase!

Thanks for the help!

really??? i would say our cars like to burn synthetic oil

my 01 would burn at least a quart between changes whereas my 04 does not burn a drop on dino oil - the only thing i noticed was with synthetic oil the Vtec kick was much smoother

Spa02S2K check out Roade Rage's oil journals

The oil journals in the Under the Hood forum will answer any question you have about oil.

Oil viscosity is oil viscosity, you shouldnt be burning any oil.

The simple answer is no, you will not harm the engine in any way by switching back to non-synthetic oil after running it on synthetic. Just make sure to use the correct viscosity and you'll be fine with any SAE-rated oil.

Some oils ARE better than others, so it pays to do some research, but most any well maintained automobile engine will not suffer from an oil-related failure using any of the fine non-synthetic oils out on the market.

There's a lot of mis-information on the web about this and other oil-related issues, so I've learned to trust the few tribologists (oil specialists) that know what they are talking about.

Depending on how much I get into Vtec, I can burn about a quart (or more) between changes. The Honda techs say that is normal. Under normal (below 6K) driving conditions, I find that not much oil is noticably missing between changes.

- Reminding myself that I need to check my oil before leaving for the keys.
