My sister has provided me w/ additional information.

I haven't made any conclusion as to whether it serves to enlighten me or provide more confusion..

how is the banjo mounted? did they use a rivet? if so, that would prove rather painful.. and could explain the crying. Further... how would you play a banjo mounted to said knee.. and would it be difficult to walk...

Hey there....I know the song your question comes from. It's a really OLD country song. One of the verses in the song is...

"It rained all day,
The day I left,
The weather it was dry.
The sun was high,
I froze to death,
Suzanna don't you cry."

He's not saying that the banjo or him coming from Alabama has anything to do with the reason Suzanna cries. It's a song about optimisim. Notice how the verse as opposites throughout it. He describing a ying and yang of life. Saying not to cry cause with the bad comes good and vice-versa. The reason he says he come from Alabam with a banjo on his knee is to tell her he comes already prepared. It's not physically attached.

On a personal note...it's a country song. Back then country music didnt have to make perfect sense and most of the time it didnt...I hope i helped answer your question.
