Default S2000 Accident

My MY01 S2000 has never been in an accidident. Wanted to keep it that way, but unfortunately some asshole decided to change that for me.

I went in to work briefly to take care of some things, 45 mins top. I come outside to this.

Sigh, guaranteed SUV. No note of course. ****er.

This happened right in the middile of a 2004 conversion - I had just installed the headlights with the tail lights in the wings waiting to be installed. The bumpers are in the garage ready to paint.

I had plans to repaint the entire car due to rock chips and the sort, and just overall signs of age from daily driving since 2001. Guess those plans are accelerated now.

I'm taking it to a bodyshop tomorrow for a quote, and I'm quite antsy right now, perhaps I shouldn't let this bother me so much, but it's my pride n joy.

By the pictures, does the door look like it need to be replaced? Or just the skin?

I know everything is fixable so I can somewhat cope with this but I always have the fear of it not coming out OEM. =/

Can't tell by those pics, cause from one angle it looks like just a scratch, and from another pic, it looks like a huge dent!
But for me it will look better if you replace the skin!

Might be able to skin the door if they are available for the S

Appears they are and cheap - have them replace the skin the sticker is on the shell

Taken that your insurance is going to cover for the damage, and that you are planning to paint the entire car, here is what I would do.

Take it to some high end body shop to get the estimate. So you will get a quote on the high end. I don't know what insurance company you have, but try to take it to a shop that is not on their list. The one that are on the list have worked out deals to have low labor rates, so you're quote won't be as high. Have the insurance cut you a check for that amount. Take your car to a shop you trust to do the repair and the repaint. This will probably help you on the load that you have to pay.

Hehe..

If its the door skin , its wrapped around the door frame then welded, very simple.

Was the handled affected at all? If it was a I would recommend new door. If not just a new skin, assuming once they take the skin off the reinforcement bar is not damaged.

I work for a big insurance company, so I might be able to help you source some parts if your not using insurance. Let me know, PM me

His insurance company will write their own independent estimate regardless of where he takes it.

Andif your in the insurance game please take the car to where you will get it repaired and do not cash the check. If they did not write the estimate correctly, and that is about 95% of the time. The shop can supplement the damages. IF you cash the check you are SOL.

I would go for a door if you can get it - from what I see if I was writing the estimate I would write it for a skin. I used to do this for a living.

the door structure is fine, as is the handle. No creacks, rattles, or anything..

Unfortunately - I'm not claiming any of this on my insurance, after further consideration - I'm going to pay for it out of pocket..

I was looking to repsray the entire car Berlina Black with the addition of the 04 conversion - I was quoted $2800 for that - Seeing as that price already involves repainting the door I can only imagine about $200.00 for the skin, and maybe $500? in labor to put it on? totaling this to about $3500.00 - I really hope it doesn't go much past that

Cashing the check does not release the insurance company from further damages, i.e. supplement.

I too would only write a skin based on the visible dmgs and the fact that Gemini said there is no dmg to the handle.

A new door from honda is $573 on that car, good luck finding a used on, its very hard in my area to find salvage parts on an s2000.

The skin is $227.75 from honda. With labor and paint, your looking at about $720 for the job. This is assuming labor rates in my area.

To repairs the skin, your looking at about $420 including paint and labor.

Obviously paint times and remove and installs will be cut if they are repainting the entire car as well

Just gives you an idea for your door repair.
