Default Stress Tears in the top?

So the other day I went to put my top down and I saw some light on the high point in the rear fo the top where the bar moves back and forth.

Is this the stress point for the top. Have others torn in the same place?

Mine was very small, mabye 1/4". It was dumb luck that I found it before it got bad.

I took the car to Dixie Tops and we worked out a solution for the problem. I had them make patches (mounted on the inside) for the two rear sections and two sections in the front that seem to be wearing from two rough edges near the front.

They installed 4 inside patches two large for the rear and two small for the front/middle. total cost 50.00

The reason I bring this up is preventative maintence can save big money. If you look at the inside of the top, you will see if it is wearing. If so , it can be stopped before major top damage.

I can of the patches, but not of the orginal damage, I didn't wait long enough to take pics, I just brought it to the shop.

the wear is very easy to see if you actually look at the inside of the top. Now I know to check it occassionally

The shop did say that if I replaced the top, that they would put some pads on the bars to prevent the wear form happening. I'll probably come up with a bar wrap in the next few weeks. once I do i will post the results.

Thanks. Mitch for the info. I already had to replace my top under warrantee. But the warrantee will expire in 6 months. So I may do this to be safe. If you have any pics that would be great.

mine was very small. call me crazy (mine is 6 years old) but I would rather spend 50 instead of 700-900 for a new top
