Trip to the Keys from CT/NY suggestions?
Hey guys,
I am driving to the Keys from NYC. Are the Keys worth the trip? I am not a big drinker and neither is my girl. Any suggestions on what to do or see when I am down there? We intend on going the first week of May. Anything in particular to look out for? Any nice roads or scenery (doesnt have to be in the keys either, just in the general vicinity)?
Thanks!

Feeding the Tarpon from the pier right after you hit Islamorada is a must. What kinds of things do you like? Wildlife? Try an airboat tour in the Glades or stop for the night and do a tour of the Okefenokee Swamp Park in southeast Georgia. You can swim with the dolphins in the keys and go snorkeling on the reefs...
There's plenty to do or it's easy to relax. If you're not a big drinker I would stay on one of the islands north of Key West, maybe even in the middle keys. Key West is worth seeing but it is a bit different and unless you're there to party...
Guys, correct me on anything I'm wrong about. It's been a while since I moved from down there.

If you're driving from NYC just to see the Keys, ...I would have to say no. Just rent the movie "True Lie" and save yourself the trip. If you're doing stuff along the way, then it should be a fun trip since there are a lot to do on the way down. The Capital, NC's beach, Atlanta, Oralando,........
If you are going to the Keys, don't even bother with Key West. To me, its a old town with bars, clubs, tattoo parlor, and some historical site. On the other hand, there are some beautiful views of the ocean before Key West.

I don't agree with that statement. Key West is a great little place to visit, even if you don't drink or get tattoos. The fact that it is an "old little town" is what is great about it....lot's of history. Lots of great art (local artists mostly) and you can even go see the Hemingway house with all his six-toe cats.....
I personally love Key West....that's just my opinion....
However, enjoy the trip down as well because there is A LOT to see between NY and South Florida.
