Default What would you recommend?

Alright. I gotta transport my brothers RX7 to Panama City, and driving it... just isn't an option. Has anyone used a car transport service, and if so who? How much did it run about?

Do you guys think that hauling it our selves would be expensive?? Basically renting the car dolly from UHUAL. Only bad thing is I don't think the Murano would be able to tow it, and we aren't up for using my bro-in-law's Excursion and it chugging away at gas.

So any Ideas??

Why not? That will be your cheapest alternative.

We used SWAD ( http://swadautotransporters.com/ ) when we came down from Boston... they do the snowbird route, but you may be able to hitch a cheap ride to PC. Cost was about $500/car from Boston to here.

One of the few transport services that doesn't have a bad mark on their record. Talked to a number of tow services back in Boston to get a feel for them (the tow services get your car from your door to their main local transport center)... every one said they always had quality service with them.

Well Kim, in all honesty we are afraid of the car breaking down. It's an older car, more for crusing and enjoying than long road trips. Get me? We don't want to have to risk it, plus i would have to drive it all the way up with my parents cruising behind me... NOT FUN! I wont be able to go really fast in the car anyway.

Dan, thanks for the info.. i will give them a look/call.

It might be a little cheaper to just eat the gas charges and tow it yourself.

Tow dolly from Budget (+/- 85)
or Car Carrier from Budget (+/-150)

Approx. 600 miles to Panama City
Approx +/- 13 MPG on the Excursion

= 46 Gallons of gas one way

46 * 2.15 (avg gas price) = 98.9

Total: 85 + 2(98.9) = 282.8

Granted, while you're towing, you'll use more gas...still beats $500
You just have to ask yourself if your time is worth it.

If you're going up the Turnpike, add $40 roundtrip for tolls...

I hear ya. I had to do the same thing when I moved down here in 2000. Driving from NJ to FL w/ my parents behind blew big-time. If the speed limit was 65, pops didn't want to hit anything higher than 70 mph. Talk about one long and boring trip.

$500 was from Boston to south Florida... I highly doubt they'd charge you the same to go from Miami to PC. I would expect cost-wise to about break even, but if they do it you don't have to spend the time yourself, not to mention having no need for a follower car.

That's true. Ship the car.

The 2 quotes I have received thus far have each been $495! Go figure. I'm going to be calling several places throughout the next month.

I understand the Excursion might be good, but it is $40 in tolls, then the gas will only take us just north of G'ville and it fills up at $100! So that's $200 + Tolls, plus Dolly.. which i haven't asked how much.

Following up; the car doesn't do good in gas. It would be about 190 Miles to the tank and it fills up at about $22. Plus if we follow up in the Murano... that's 300+ Miles on $35. Plus tolls on each car. Plus only going 70MPH. Not including worrying the whole way the car will break down on us.

Oh and Kim it's not because my parents are afraid of going faster than 70, normally on all our road trips my dad and I do 80/85, it's just the car shouldn't be driving 1) for such a long distance and 2) definetly not at 80MPH!
