Default 2nd Gear grind

Was thinking about fixing the TSB on the MY02 2nd gear grind. It gets to be a bit of a pain once and a while.

Question is: anyone here ever do it locally? Reccomendations on place and cost?

and is it a noticable difference?

TIA

Back in the 40s, my dad and friends would through a little saw dust in the tranny to smooth things our. Worked long enough to sell one of Henry's cars to some guy down the street.

Is it even truly a real "grind". I have come to think that its just a notch in the transmission that occurs at low rpms especially when cold. At least thats what it feels like in my car s2k. My 00 SiR did the same thing (not as bad though) and it was said to be part of general operation. Does anyone know if this said to be "grind" is actually causing any harm to the transmission, or is it just an inconvenience while driving?

You haven't seen anything yet. Try shifting a hot transmission from 1 to 2 at anything above 6K and listen to the grind. It breaks my heart.

My 02 S2K had a new transmission (under warranty) when I purchased it used because the previous owner trashed the original second gear.

I changed the tranny oil this summer and the 1-2 grind has become worse than with the original oil. I used the new Honda Manual Transmission fluid 08798-9031 too.

A 1-2 notch when cold is a normal thing for this car. Live with it, but watch the 1-2 shifts when she warms up. You'll be in for a surprise.

Bobby,

Bobby, what did you mean when you said "watch the 1-2 shifts when she warms up. You'll be in for a surprise." Did you mean I have a real transmission problem when the car grinds as well when warm? When my car warms up the transmission seems to be much smoother.

9 x out of 10 its operator error. 1st and 2nd gear have a triple cone synchro which requires the clutch to be fully depressed when shifting into either gear due to the nature of the mechanics. It's one of the reasons why getting into 1st and 2nd requires a little more force on the shifter.

Since the gate is very narrow (distance between 1 & 2 is short), a lot of inexperienced drivers perform the 1-2 shift too quickly, or actually, faster than they think they can and catch 2nd without a fully depressed clutch.

Over time 2nd gear turns to crap and the owner complains about the horrid 2nd gear grind that was completely their fault.

Same deal with the RSX.

Conclusion: Push your ****ing clutch down...
