The Argument
my friends and i have a debate going, they want to know who would win in a 1/4 mile , my 02 ap1 all stock except for k&N intake and invidia exhaust vs his 04 grand prix supercharged.
i am arguing it will be close but the S will pull out ahead since it is ALOT lighter, RWD, 6-speed standard, and the power-to-weight ratio is better.
he thinks his gtp will destroy the S, and it will not even be close.
yet the gtp is a 4 door, big heavy 3.8, FWD, semi-automatic, and has a ton of safely features (traction control etc)
i know for a fact off the line the S will pull ahead, but will it hold up for the 1/4?

You will get destroyed lol
His car has way more tq not to mention probably more hp and it's auto. As boring as automatic cars are, they are faster if set up properly and seeing as it's a "performance" model it is probably set up decently. Not to mention all he has to do it floor the gas off the line while your busy trying to break your shift knob off lol. My hemi ram weighs a hell of alot too but from a stop the thing rockets from the get go just because of the tq.
S2000 is hard to leave from the line since it has absolutely no torque And doesn't make hp until 6k+ so it's hard to launch in peak power without spinning the tires.
Not sure on the hp on the grand prix but I'm putting my money on thr grand prix

i think the s could win... did a quick search seems like the gtp's do about 14.4-15.0 at 93 MPH.
I ran my S not even launching or touching my tire pressure on stock tires, I ran 14.2 at 100 MPH, then i hit at 14.1, same mph. This was when i just had a Comptech Intake and T1R exhaust.
He will initially pull ahead but when your in vtec and depending how you launch you'll pass him around 3rd gear would be my guess.
But this is all talk until it goes down. Best thing to do is take it to the track lol..

i also did some research: gtp stock is putting 260hp and 280 ft of torque
being compared to the S 240hp 153 ft torque; this is not looking good for the honda side....
but doesnt the weight play a role in this? cause i know for a fact the S is at least 1000lbs lighter if not more.

The torque that S/C'd V6 puts down will football field the S2K from a stop.
Don't misshift, get a good light.... and you'll win... but not by much.
The 3.8L GTP is only 260 hp, and 280 ftlbs. Front wheel drive, and prob 1000lbs on top of you. It also has 3.2 something rear gears... the s2k has 4.10
I think your traction advantage from a stop will be the win.
I googled, 1/4 mile for GTP is 14.1, S2k was 13.9..... CLOSE!
This URL shows similar numbers, so I'm assuming both were stock.
S2k wins by less than a second. Wins by a better jump off the line.

Should be a close race, don't do it on a cold day though.
