Autox this weekend
Anyone going to the Competition Corvette event? Sunday - Bronte Go Station in Oakville.
If anyone wants to try autox, the corvette events are the ones to attend!

I know what you mean. I'm in ASP because of my aluminium pulleys
I'm not competitive enough to worry about though, and I'm not changing what mods I'm planning to do to fit the rules. It's about pushing the car and having fun ... and if you were that serious R-compound tires are required.
To share my shame, (I'm still a rookie) but at the Ottawa events, there is an incredible driver that still beats me in RAW time with a Hyundai Accent! An Accent!
Hey Marco, I'm interested (really interested) in doing some AutoX's but was wondering, is it better for me to do a track day to get more used to driving the car hard before I attempt an AutoX? I really want to get into this but don't want to embarrass myself too much. Cheers.
Nothing to be embarassed by, we all have been beaten by what some considered to be "lesser" cars. I still get my ass kicked by civics and miatas all the time, not as many as last year though
. It's all about the driver
.
You really don't need any experience to autox, just a basic ability to drive a manual car...which you have. What you will find to be the most difficult part is understanding the course by the cone configuration. It will take you a couple of runs to get this and it is probably a good idea to have someone who has autoxed a few times with you just to point out the course.
Hope to see you there on Sunday!

Hey Rob,
I really don't think you need to wait for some track time before you try AutoX.
Regarding "driving the car hard" the key to speed is being smooth. The fastest guys look like they're hardly working at all.
What you learn at the parking lot, will benefit you at the track. Cornering, braking, and vehicle dynamics are all the same.
I think Marco would agree that the Corvette events are probably better for 1st timers because the courses tend to be more wide open.

AutoX and track are totally different animals. AutoX is all about car control, smoothness and reflexes. Tracking is about guts with the brakes, feeling for grip and optimizing car inputs.
I think that autoX is a good start for track, since it will safely and at relatively low speed let you experience total loss of control the car. Not something you want to find out at high speed on the track. Until you cross the edge you won't know what the edge is
