The Canadian city of Edmonton could find itself with a Champ Car World Series event as early as next year if the latest stateside rumours are to be believed.

A report posted in the Edmonton Journal late last week indicates that the city has already signed a contract with Champ Car to host a race next July on a course designed around the Edmonton City Centre Airport.

The report also indicated that a race in Edmonton would not come at the cost of losing the Molson Indy Vancouver and would add a fourth Canadian date alongside Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.

The future of the Vancouver race has been the subject of some speculation owing to planned construction work around the site of the current Champ Car course.
