Default compression test?

Hi guys, i'm about to have a look at a used '00 S2K.

It has been driven by an elderly couple supposedly and has 20,000 kms. Do you think I should get a compression test done?

I don't want to have any problems with this car even though it has the extended warranty.

Any help or input would be greatly appreciated.

Certainly, a compression test won't hurt and it will give you a peace of mind. I'm sure you can do it yourself aswell. Just pick up a compression gauge from canadian tire and you're set!

Although with an extended warranty, even if the motor did let go, you would be covered...

I can do the compression test myself, but I am not sure if the seller is willing to let me do it before I purchase the car.

How would one go about it doing this? Also, the car I believe has to be certified before I put the plates on.

Thanks for the responses, please keep them coming

You can get a temporary licence, which i beleive costs 10 bux. This will allow you to get the car certified, emissions tested before you get your own plates...

You can buy the car conditional to a compression test and inspection. I'm sure they won't mind.

If the seller won't let you do a compression test before you buy it, he either is hiding something, or doesn't really want to sell it

Other than opening up an engine I don't think you can..
I would always do a simple compression test before buying a high strung 4 banger sports car like this one. Odds are the everything is ok but it might save from potential headaches in the future ..

I did compression on my car last year it measured 235 psi across all 4 cylinders.

Just FYI ...Measure at 250rpm at WOT
Nominal 228psi
Minimum is 135psi
Maximum Variation between any two cyls 28psi

235psi across the board are excellent results. I wonder what they are when the car is new?

I know for a b18c5, the compression can be close to 280psi when new, i guess it should be similar as the compression ratio is close...11 to 1.
