convincing a friend to buy an S2000

hi all,

so, i've been trying to convince a friend that the S2000 is one of the best "bang for buck" roadster/convertibles out there.

anyways, last night i was out with rahul (1badride) and the friend and we were talking about it and then this morning he called me and said to ask around on the board for used S2000's in good shape.

if anyone knows of any used S2000's in southern ontario, please advise on this thread or pm me.

thanks.

ps. at the end of the night, i told the friend that i'm through trying to convince him on the virtues of the S2000 (compared to boxster, 330ci, clk320, etc.)....i guess he came to his senses by morning:D

There is a '01 Silverstone/Red at Ideal Honda that they were willing to deal on when I was looking. Ask for Clark.

It only had about 5K km on it. It currently belongs to the dealerships owner.

Hope this helps.

Hey Nimesh good going

www.trader.ca

Check it out, there are always S2000's for sale, various colours and mileage.

PLYRS 3 01-16-2002 08:50 AM

we looked at all those this morning - no "deals" really.

btw, what would YOU pay for an '01 with avg clicks (say 10-15K)?

they're typically in the $44-45K range.

i told him a deal would be $40-41K (3-4 grand off)

nabeel (itr racer) is selling his on globeandmail.com for $45.5K with 12k. i think his would be in good shape cause he's not a "hard" driver.

please keep the comments/suggestions coming...

oh yeah, and my friend is serious b/c his lease is coming up.

matrix 01-16-2002 09:12 AM

I just took a look at the auto trader link just to see what they are at...

Check out this one....what an idiot - some dealership make me laugh, you can get a BRAND NEW ONE for a grand more...if you are unlucky enough to pay full MSRP, less if you deal on it.

I am not sure if he can get it that cheap with that type of mileage, but I hope he does it.

so that means that i should sell him mine with 50K for about $46K - dealers are dumb...

btw, he ONLY wants silverstone or sebring silver (2002).

DoGMaN 01-16-2002 10:07 AM

That car is one to stay away from.

Its been there forever, I called about it a LONG time ago and the one sales guy, can't remember his name said to stay away from it..its been beaten the hell out of at the track and had its rearend replaced.

They need to drop the price down about 20k and maybe someone will buy it who's handy :)

That is one dealership I've tried to deal with and they will not deal period..and I have no idea why.

matrix 01-16-2002 11:28 AM

Just out of curiosity, I called Ideal to see what the price of that '01 Silver was. $46,896 + $299 Admin. I said you realize that is only about $1600 above a new one at MSRP (PDI would also apply to a new one). I told them that I knew someone looking for Silver but that was too high. That is about a 3% premium for a new one. I think when someone is looking at buying this car for this kind of $$$, they will buy a new one for the price difference, especially if they are paranoid about break in etc. They will buy an older one only if they can get a good deal. I told him I did not view this as a deal. He said put in an offer, I said I would pass it on, but don't hold your breath.

That's why I did not purchase from them, but maybe they want to move this one, it's been there for months.
Idle stock....

Hope this helps.

There is a place around the corner from me, Has a red one, 2000, with 40k Km on it, I believe they want 37,000 for it.

Not what you're looking for, but its all I know of right now. I'll keep an eye out

DoGMaN 01-16-2002 12:55 PM

Theres a Black / Black 2000 in Barrie 40k the dealer has had it since day one. They wanted 40k for it but its highly negotiable.

Barrie Acura has a 2001 Silver with black..unknown KMs and price..so you could try them as well.

I'd expect that one at Barrie Honda to go for about 33ish.

Its been well maintained and driven like a sissy heh

PLYRS 3 01-16-2002 12:55 PM

what i don't get is the attitude at honda dealerships...

no one seems to know anything or is willing to work to find out anything about incoming 2002's.

christ, they only have 5 models to worry about - civic, accord, crv, odyssey and s2000 - and thay can't even get that right.

they could make a $50K sale but they just don't seem to want to - WHAT UP WITH THAT?

i wonder if the commissions on the s2000 line is not up to par as the others.

just frustrated, that's all!

Ahhh....you forget the first cardinal rule of being a sales rep...LAZINESS (no offense to any sales reps on this board ;) ).

Mindcore 01-16-2002 01:29 PM

Hey, I'm offended :)

I think the commision on the S2K is pretty high, Can't for the life of me figure why they can't do thier job

TAM S2 01-16-2002 01:31 PM

does he want a blk/blk w/ a kit??...

Nabs 79 01-16-2002 02:18 PM

No, i was asking $45,500 obo.:) Yeah, it is a bit on the high side but it does'nt hurt to ask. I'm not even sure i am gonna sell it, cuz i know i just won't get what i ultimately want for it and it's just not worth losing that much money on it.

I hear ya about the Honda dealers! They seem to have a certain attitude, i wonder if they even realize how many S2000's there are out on the market. I'm sure your friend can find a good one for $42k with low mileage. If you want a really good deal on a new 2002 s2k, pm me nimesh. I think i may be able to get you a little over cost.

inxshp 01-16-2002 02:46 PM

TKG 26 theres a silver/red S2000 in Waterloo. The dealer have it advertised as a demo!!! Don't know how this could still be classified under demo, since it's a 2000 not 2001. It only have 14k on it and they are asking 39995.00. You can check it out at www.waterloohonda.com under used vehicles inventory.

Mindcore 01-16-2002 03:04 PM

Ed, that sounds like your car!! Your not thinking of selling are you?

Ed,

How much are you asking for your car? I may have a buyer if the price is right.

Let me know!

Peace.

PLYRS 3 02-18-2002 08:48 AM

OK, my friend sold the TL on friday.....

he's decided to get the new A4 cab. not an S2000, but nice in it's own right and more "practical" for him.

not sure what he's gonna do in the interim as the car is 6 months away (at least)

opinions anyone?
