Looking to buy first s2000
First of all I would like to say hello. I am a new member in this forum and was looking to get my first s2000!
My budget is only 17k MAX.
I found this one s2000, a year 2000 red with 36k km selling for 17k. Is this a good deal?
Also, I realize that the year 2000 is the second year s2000's. Should I steer clear of early models?
Lastly, what do you guys recommend, an early year s2000 with lower kms or later year s2000 with higher kms
Thanks in advance!

Both are virtually the same. Subtle differences in both, basically depends which one you like and think looks better.
There is a nice ap1 at worldfinecars w/ 40km <-- would have been my choice had I not bought in Nov.

There are soooooo many factors to make the choice between a AP1 (00-03) and a AP2 (04-present). Your going to have to do some research to make the choice...
Everyone will give you a different opinion but your going to have to drive both to decide...
I would stay away from the 00 s2000 just because there were ALOT of recalls with major problems concerning the clutch, tranny, oil squirters, rear diff, rear window, and the list goes on....
My recommendation would be to get a late model AP1 (2003) or get an AP2 (04+) That way you know all the updates have been done

00 and 01 comes with a plastic rear window as opposed to the glass ones in 02 and +. if you're deadset on a glass rear window then shop for 02+ or put aside ~$1100+ for the swap from plastic to glass eventually down the line
the amount of km's on this car really doesn't matter, it all depends on how the car was previously driven and maintained
inspect the car carefully -- i.e. look at body panel vin -- and make sure the car hasn't been in an accident or some shady shit
take your time and you'll find an ideal match, best of luck

I drive mine like i stole it and it runs like a champ. Although i did have the clutch replaced for the clutch buzz TSB, second gear replaced due to the high rpm grind TSB, and i changed the oil squirters for piece of mind on the track. All of these were done for me after i already owned the car for a year and i didnt really notice any of them. The dealer i bought mine from recommended them when i went for an oil change.

With used dealerships some won't (or don't even have) records to provide you with, so you don't quite know what your getting unless you check it with a professional (which is a safe route regardless of where you buy).
The other thing that I've found is that there weren't too many s2k's from a honda dealer - which means your almost limited these other places.
Just a word though, wherever you do buy - do not purchase from prestigemotors. I've seen - from the number of times I was there last summer - ugly incidents. Just make sure you can get enough records of the car possible, enough to learn the history, see if you can even contact the previous owner about it.

My service records from the previous owner had all sorts of crap replaced...2nd gear twice, clutch twice, rear wheel bearings, and the list goes on....I just finished rebuilding my diff this summer also. And my car WAS bone stock, its not even close to stock now though

When purchasing an s2000 sometimes the best deal by price isn't always what you should look for. Most people will tell you that paying a little more for something that has all records and you know the previous owner as value
But back to your question... a my00 with 36k km for 17k seems like a good deal. But who's to say those aren't 36k track miles? Or the previous owner was some punk kid that never let the car warm up before trying to do vtec pulls out of his high school parking lot? Just something to think about because you never really know the true history of a car.
