It's because they have to replace the whole console.

rahul, isn't it the spring/gear mechanism??

that happened to me once - i removed the console and fidgeted with the spring/gear mechanism and it's been fine ever since.

oh, now i remember.....

the rubber liner around the cup holder cover had gotten stuck in the "mechanism".

I'm sure you can probably fix it yourself........ Worst case is a 400 dollar mistake

Well, I don't know the details of it not working, but I saw someone else at FH a while back who had theirs replaced (around $400) and I was shocked to find out that's how much the console costs.

I'd honestly try to fix it first. If it cannot be repaired, then time to buy one.

$400... that's reasonable for Japanese gold (plastic)...

worse comes to worse, save your $400 and just keep ur cup holder lid-less ... that thing is probably the only useless feature in the car....

speaking of which, does anyone drive w/ a beverage in the holder? no matter how small my drink (pop cans) it always gets in the way of me shifting.. anyone else have that problem?
