Gernby has an Invidia that he used to test fit. It is very close to the T1R exhaust inlet, you should be able to go with URGE Spec Midpipe only and adjust your exhaust hangers or rubber mounts to fit.

If you can post up db readings I would be in for sure. Also there was some talk about the hfc not doing well with Forced induction, is that true in any way?

Ill ping Gernby for db readings. Any specifics on what you are looking for.

One HFC did get loose out of one of Gernby's original 50. We can provide a new cat for $100 and it would cost a few $100 to re weld back in. For less than $300 it can be replaced. Any Forced Induction Car running rich will burn up any cat, OEM, Heavy Metal, etc.

sillyboybmxer 07-11-2015 06:38 PM

i think any one concerned with the dB reading is going to be using the STR version and a single exit.
A fly by at 75ft at the top of 2nd gear measured at 75ft please

Thanks! On a related note to the STR version,

1. I noticed the STR version of the midpipe does not expand as big as the Urge version. Is this because it does not have sound baffling? Any pros and cons given this design permutation?
2. Do you have dyno numbers of the STR version to compare with stock, test pipe, and Urge version midpipe?
3. Can we get a picture of the STR midpipe side-by-side with the stock midpipe so we can interpret whether the STR rule is fulfilled?

You guys are doing some awesome work here! Tne s2k community definitely appreciates it!

Thanks,

1. Yes it is the reason why we could not fit sound baffling. The reason why it doesn't expand as much is that the cone has to be much longer to meet the STR rules to be with in 6" of the OEM cat. We brought it with in 5". If the STR was the same width it would contact the body.
2. I don have a dyno chart, I can see if Gernby can dig one up. But it does make the same power. Ill see if he can do some back to backs with each pipe. He made a few STRs in his original run and they did make the same power.
3. We can work on that picture as well.

Thank you..

imstimpy 07-12-2015 05:35 AM

The dyno results of this pipe have always been quite impressive.

I do not see a cat in the STR pipe. Where is it?

The STR rules try to define what a "cat" is- is it the pipe containing the cat, the catalytic material, or the expansion chambers containing the cat.

"The extents of an OE converter are defined by the expansion
chamber in which the catalyst is contained, regardless of placement
within larger exhaust sections"

That, to me, would be where the cat pipe tapers into a standard diameter (within 6" of the OEM O2 bung location would be a good rule of thumb). People discussed building a 3' long expansion chamber with the cat at the end but that isn't what the rule intends to allow. The intention is to allow moving the core of the cat downstream no more than 6".

Food for thought.

A quote from the September 2014 fastrack in response to letter #14037:

In regards to the location of non-OE catalytic converters the STAC considers the inlet to be the location where the expansion chamber begins. Additionally, there are currently no restrictions as to where the catalyst medium may be located within the assembly
This clarification pretty explicitly spells out that as long as the expansion chamber begins within (from the rule book) "within 6” (152.4 mm) of the original unit." the catalyst medium can be located anywhere within the assembly.

Thanks for that. They didn't incorporate the clarification into the 2015 rules and I forgot about the FastTrack response from last time this discussion came up. That means a 3' long expansion chamber can move the cat 3' downstream...

The Cat is on the 2nd part back end of the chamber. The STR and URGE spec share the same back end. Only the front part is different to meet STR rules.
The cat is in the section behind the rear tie bar.

There is no hanger on the Mid Pipe, it is much lighter than the OEM cat and mid section. Gernby never had a hanger on his original 50 units he sold. So we didnt either.

Any pics of the non-colored Exhaust Tip on the Dual Exhaust option?
Will it just be a 70mm Straight Tip in Stainless Steel? Polished?

I really like the Stainless Steel, Polished Tip option that is available on the Greddy Spectrum Elite Dual Exhaust Polished Tips:

Any possibility of offering this type of Exhaust Tip?
Thanks.

We can produce a sound clip of the Dual, but we wont have a Single sound clip until after production as the Single is a new design based off of the Dual.

Our version of the Gern Pipe was designed off the T1R dual, we are simply offering a single muffler based off half the dual for those that have single outlet bumpers and want higher weight. The single will sound like the dual but up to 3 db louder.

The single will simple be the same finish as the muffle, essentially the same color before the gradient tip in the picture. I provided a close up of that natural finish which is polished.

Is there any gains to be had between the single and dual or does the midpipe make them equal? ??
Is the sound clup from the dual EM or the dual from the mufflers available to us?

There should be no difference between the Dual or Single. The Dual has less resistance but and the Single has more velocity. Any difference we measure is going to be limited by any weather variances on that day.

As you noted the magic is in the Gern Pipe and the scavenging pulse it creates from 4000-7000 RPM (and another 500 RPM on either side). Anything behind that is for looks or weight.

We were blessed to have T1R work with us to make a complete system. We felt their 70mm was the best no the market from a performance (balancing restriction vs sound deadening), value and quality.

We are working on a sound clip.

We are using the same T1R Dual Sparrow jig and the tip is the same length away from the muffler, so the current T1R Dual Sparrow is an accurate representation of where we will be.

I appreciate the kind words. We have had some ups and downs but we are trying hard to keep the S2000 evolving and improving.

For the quietest possible exhaust, I would go with the URGE spec mid pipe that has sound baffling and will reduce drone from 3500 to 7000 RPM. Above 7000, the frequencies will pass through the mid pipe, but if you are above 7000 RPM, you are not trying to be quite. Again we do have sound baffling in the mid pipe and the 2 mufflers to dampen as much as a straight through mufflers can.

As we don't have a fully built single in our hands, we are estimating 21-24 lbs. This includes a Cat and replaces the OEM cat section so weight savings can be more than just replacing the exhaust.

Either should work really, the versions are simply based upon the room available. The 2nd bent version is longer and has less of chance to through a CEL.

The HFC is near the rear axle, so the secondary O2 is well before that. You will need to disable or use simulator.

Me too!

All we have is our 5 year old T1R set up so we are not sure how the sound will differ. We are probably going to record new clips once we get our Spec T1R in. Should be similar but we want clips with new mufflers. If Gernby and I can get a few hours to work together, we will still try to record the current system. Our schedules have not linked up in a while.

As far as Drone reduction, that is due to the Gern Pipe design. Our pipes are copied of their original design and confirmed by Gernby. We will have the exact drone reduction from the previous system in the targeted 3500-7000 RPM range. It is not Drone Free, but should be best in class for that range which is considered cruising for most S2Ks.

We have 10 days left for Launch Buy pricing. We will place an order on August 15th.

Yup, we have been thinking about this as we only tested the Dual and we wanted to make sure the Single was covered.

For the single, we are using the same 2 hangers as Dual which are on the muffler itself + we paid for an extra custom hanger point. See attached picture.

[attachment=83405:Single Hanger.jpg]

Plus we are including 3 of these with every Single Exhaust (4 with the Duals)

T1R has told me the Exhaust should be leaving Japan this month and headed my way on Sea Freight.
The Mid Pipes should be done this month as well and I will get them with in a week one they are done.

The time frame was always going to be based upon the International sea freight shipping.

Exhaust are running a little late but I have a target date to clear customs on Friday 10/2. We will pick up, test fit a few over the weekend and start shipping the following week.

I have box sizes and weight and will start calculating costs next week and update invoices with shipping.

I know this is the original system but damn. If these new versions sound like this I'm gonna have to get in on one of the group buys.

It is, tracking numbers will be emailed by FedEx once the exhaust are in their possession. It will be a 2 piece shipment.
