I don't exactly have high hopes after their last event, but I've registered in order to get some seat time before the end of the year.

I'm registered.

What happened at their last event? It's been a while since I've run with this group.

It was just a poorly run event. The course was run in a single direction down the runway (no turnaround to wind up back near the finish), but the organizers weren't sure how they were going to manage gridding/running the cars.

Some people complained about the course layout, so they decided to "fix" it after lunch while the first run group sat in their cars for 40 minutes.

In the first set of runs after the course change, a car spun through the finish at a pretty high speed and wound up relatively close to the cars lined up ready to drive back to the start. This in particular was concerning, since it was heavily influenced by the way the course was changed and the lack of testing done on the changed section. After the spin occurred, not very much was done to prevent it from happening again. Much of it was left to the drivers to hold back coming through the last corner into the finish.

I frequent the corvette club events, so spin-outs, even those at pretty high speeds aren't new to me. That said, I found this case concerning considering the proximity to course workers and drivers.

The events are generally well managed, but the organizers didn't seem to have their heart in it this time. Usually results are posted online within a couple days - I received an email containing the times from the first half of the day, but not the second. Neither sets of times have been posted on their website. I was interested in seeing how I did in the second half of the day, but it isn't a big deal.

Overall, I still had a good time - I got to drive, and that was the whole point!

tl;dr -

1) funky course w/o a turn around
2) course changed in middle of day
3) car almost crashed because of changed course
4) no times posted

Hm, sounds like they haven't changed much since I ran with them last. I've seen them do the "one way" course before. It was stupid. I've also seen them do the dangerous finish before - kinda scary. That's when I stopped running with them.

However...it's been a while and I need my fix! ;-)

I'll be in attendance but you can bet I'll be parking away from the finish line and will be vigilant to possible safety hazards.

Sounds like a good plan - I don't mean to try to scare people away.

The one way course wasn't so bad once they got the ball rolling, things were just pretty slow and disorganized at first. It seemed like the organizers recognized things weren't going well; I think the stress just caused them to lose sight of some important factors.

I'm sure things will be better this time around. The event they held before the last one was excellent.

This event was pretty fun. Got off to a slow start in the morning. Sorry about that - I hate to be "that guy" about safety, but it felt like they were being overly aggressive with how quickly they were running the cars.

Sean and I had a pretty epic battle all day.
