I have a VAFC II and it works great. I am not sure but I think people say it bc the ecu in the S adapts itself to maintain certain settings and I have heard that after a month or so it will over ride the vafc on all but WOT. Resetting the ecu monthly will solve that. I have read that the ecu does no "learning" at WOT so the vafc will still control it then.

I don't know if that makes any sense but thats what I've read and heard.

i have seen a vafc make about 10hp difference on dyno, but the ability to change vtec and smooth out fuel curve, after it being tuned the owner swore the car was way faster, better gas milage and ran better. Have the give Scott credit for the tune & S&R credit for dyno.
