SPGP Sunday 3/24 Parade Lap Meet & Roll In
Same Drill as Thursday, meet up at WestShore Mall and Roll in as a Group.
The big difference is we will not be entering the track/RV area but instead meeting outside the track in a reserved staging area on 6th Avenue where we will add Quarter Panel Decals and Honda windshield eyebrows, do our final detailing and prep before rolling in to another staging area inside the track.
Our Staging Area is on 6th Avenue and we will want to park head in in the order Rob determines and should provide us by Friday or Saturday at the latest. Please check this thread for updates throughout the weekend.
We need to be at the 6th Avenue Staging area in downtown St. Pete no later than 8:00AM per Primogen so for those of you who want to meet up and roll in together lets meet at the WestShore Mall, on the westside of JC Penney at 7:00AM, we will roll out no later than 7:15AM SHARP heading over to the staging area. Traffic usually isn't an issue so we should have plenty of time to arrive by 8:00AM.
For those who don't know the WestShore Mall is located at:
WestShore Mall
250 WestShore Plaza
Tampa, FL 33609
If any folks in St Pete want to organize and meet up with us as we roll accross the bridge post up and we can coordinate.
A few items to note about the weekend: (some of this is a repeat from the Thursday Westshore Post but please read it again)
1) Make sure you bring your RV Lot Parking Pass, in years past when we enter the gate as a group they usually don't check for them however they may, they have become more restrictive in the past few years. Put your tickets and Parking pass in your car now and leave them there, they won't be of any use to you at home. Oh and please don't read this as an opportunity to crash the gate if you don't have a yellow lot pass. When entering as a single or even 2 or 3 cars during the weekend they will require your parking pass and your tickets. Also those attempting to gain entry without the pass and or tickets will only serve to give our group a black eye.
2) Make sure your car is freshly washed and detailed. We all take pride in our cars and while we are representing Indycar & SPGP we are also representing each other & our community.
3) Make sure you bring your Tonneau Cover, it MUST be on for these events. Honda is the title sponsor for this race and they have chosen the S2000 & Ridgeline products to represent them on track. We must look our best! If you do not have a Tonneau Cover start asking around to borrow one or search the forums FS section to purchase one quickly.
4) Make sure you bring the necessary detailing products and some micro fiber towels etc to do the final detailing before you go on track etc. This may include, window cleaner, spray detailer, tire dressing, interior detailer, etc. Don't assume you can borrow it from some one else. If you don't already have one may I suggest you purchase a California Car Duster. They are cheap ($10 at Walmart) and an easy way to give your car that last minute wipe down before heading out onto the parade route or track.
5) You will need to remove your windscreen for the Parade and on Race Day. For anyone who has never removed it it is very simple to do and only requires a phillips head screwdriver to remove 2 screws. You should have it removed before showing up however if you wait to remove it when we arrive at the Staging area I suggest bringing a zip lock bag to place the screws in for storage. Also make sure you bring the tools you may need, again don't count on anyone else having them.
5) You will have someone sitting on the area where your windscreen was (yes their buttocks will be right there) so may I suggest bringing a towel to throw over the area to protect your car from scratches (rivets from bluejeans etc) and to provide a cushion for your passenger. I also recommend another towel or towels for the center console arm rest area and the passenger seat bottom. Personally I cover all three areas with Black towels (to match my interior). In the past few years they have placed additional people in the car with the celebrity/sponsor such as a spouse, GF, BF or significant other. So be prepared for more than one person in your car. You cannot bring your own passenger (Wife, GF, BF, BFF, Etc.) to ride in the parade lap, don't even ask! While we are on the subject, I would remind you to introduce yourself to the person(s) entering your car and I would politely tell them this is your personal vehicle not a dealer car. Many of the cars used at other races are provided by a local car dealership (the Ridgelines used on Sunday at SPGP are an example) sometimes people assume it isn't your car and may not treat it with respect. Letting them know (again politely) as they enter your car will hopefully prevent any issues.
6) Unlike the Thursday Parade this event is more tense because they have a very specific schedule that has to be met for the Television broadcast etc. We will spend ample time waiting but when things start to happen it will go very quickly so be prepared!
7) Chip and others usually do photography of the event and are kind enough to share it with everyone. If you want a specific shot I suggest contacting Chip to arrange it. I know he likes Martinis (shaken not stirred) so keep that in mind as you plan your request. He may also be taking donations for new springs for "The Love Shack" after this weekend!
8) Rob (Primogen) will be at the 6th Avenue staging area to meet us at TBD/AM and provide instruction from there. He typically has a truck (Ron's) and he along with Shay and his Ridgeline offer a shuttle service from the 6th ave Staging area to the RV spot. This is of course after we are all finished with the car decaling and prep.
9) Once we arrive at the 6th Avenue Staging area we will have a specific order to park in so that we are lined up for when we move to the various staging areas. I should have that on Sunday AM so we will know when we arrive. The parking at the staging area is head in off the street so we need to be lined up in the proper order when we arrive so we don't block traffic etc.
I will be at the WestShore Mall and organizing the group over to the SPGP.

do you know approx. what time in the AM we'll need to be at the prep location? previous experience-when the parade usually start?
also regarding the additional eyebrow and fender decals, can we put those on ahead of time (before thursday or before sunday) to reduce tension, or is it only to be seen on thursday's parade.
Thanks
Edib z.

As for the actual Parade Lap time it will be right before the start of the race.
Subscribe to and watch this thread for the update for the actual time to be posted shortly.
As for the the additional decals, the short answer is no. We do not actually receive the decals until Sunday morning at the pre-staging area. Assuming we follow the traditional order of events and staging areas we will arrive at the pre staging area early enough to decal all the cars and for you to do your final detail of your car. Then we will roll into the RV area as a group in line to another staging area where we will wait for our cue to roll onto pit lane where we have our final staging, then we pick up our passengers (usually corporate sponsors, dignitaries, Grand Marshall, etc.) do our lap (waving and smiling of course) drop our passengers off at the designated area at the end of the lap, roll off track to the RV area where we park, put your top up secure your car and go watch the race.
In short we do a lot of prep & waiting for a relatively short period of time on track but it is totally worth it!
Hope this helps describe the days events, again watch this thread for the Westshore meet up time and the Pre-Staging Meet Up time & Map.
