Default Test Pipe

As some of you know, I have some rattling going on under the car and I determined the Cat has to be replaced. One of my questions is, should I go ahead and purchase a 70mm test pipe because I'm eventually going to buy an exhaust for it as well or should I run the 60mm with the stock exhaust for the time being. Or does it really matter?

I also noticed that when I took the heat shield off that surrounds cat, all this dried up foam stuff that was between the heat shield and the cat all feel apart on the floor. Will I need to put this heat shield back on over the Test Pipe or do I leave it off altogether. If I do need to replace that heat shield, what was that foam material to keep the heat shield from resting on the test pipe?

Finally what Test Pipe should I run? Invidia, Berk, Skunk, Greddy?

TestPipes 101

It's a pipe! You can pay a little or you can pay a lot, but it's still just a pipe.

Where there is a real difference is whether it is resonated or not. Resonated tp's are deeper in tone (not raspy) and of course more $. Asura andT1R are the only companies that make a resonated tp for the S that I am aware of and I own the Asura. I believe both have the secondary O2 sensor bung extension built in whereas a plain jane tp will need it added ($25).

Side note: I have a 60mm Invidia for cheap.

That concludes the piss-off Al Gore lesson.

My Megen test pipe blewthe O2 sensor off aftre being on the car for just a few months. John at LHT re-welded it for me but the issue was with the weld temerature. It blew out at the edge of the weld, the weld did not fail but the metal broke. Not a good thing to have happen while driving on the highway at 60MPH

I remember our conversation about yours a long time ago, that's what lead me to this. I just want to make sure I'm getting the right product. That had to be pretty $%@%ed up having something blow up pretty much underneath you.

Got a Berk on mine (not sure if 63.5mm or 70mm, since I purchased the car with it already installed). Gives me the typical CEL, since I'm MY06+. As of now I have the stock exhuast and it gives it a slightly deeper, slightly raspy tone. However, from outside the car it actually sounds pretty decent. Stinks up the garage if you let it idle in there long enough
