Default Timing Chain Tensioner

My engine just started making some loud ticking noise, I'm getting my oil change this afternoon just in case but it seems really loud. I've done some research on here and people are indicating it's the timing chain tensioner. How much does this thing cost and who does them around here... Please help!

S&R
not cheap, but they'll match/ beat Honda's price, and they are probably much more experienced at doing this on an S2000 than a Honda dealer.

They did my timing chain, tensioner and guides only a couple months ago and I haven't had any problems.

How many miles are on the car? I didn't mess with mine until 180K and only because Honda says to do it at that mileage.

It's an 04' and has 71,000 miles on it, I still have a carmax warranty on the car and I found out that they cover a timing belt tensioner. I might be lucky on this... How come I have seen so many horror stories with this thing? Some people have had issues every 6k miles or so. I don't track or race this car at all. I have fun with it every once in a while just like everybody else, but that's it. I'm slowly learning this car needs more maintenance than most cars.

If you can do it yourself it will cost a little over $100 to replace the TCT yourself.

Purchase TCT

I think you are refering to Blacknot (Ron) and he did go thru quite a few in a short period of time but found out there was a bigger problem causing it. Given the redline of this engine I think they have very few problems.

Good Luck with the repair

TCT install is very easy. There is a good how to on the forum (not sure if it was already posted above). Follow that and save some money/headache.

I wasn't referring to Ron but other members on this site, in the under the hood section. I'll try to get a video of the problem later...
