Weekend trip to the Keys
Hello all,
I recently moved to Tampa from Raleigh, NC. I am planning to take a long weekend trip to the keys in the near future, and I was hoping for some friendly advice.
I'm debating over just getting a hotel room for a couple nights or trying to find a house to rent, etc. Also, what are some fun things to do while vacationing in the Keys? I know the drive will be a blast.
Thanks in advance!

Welcome!
What part of the Keys are you planning on going to?
Key Largo = 5-1/2 Hour Drive
Marathon = 6-3/4 Hour Drive
Key West = 8 Hour Drive
Many things to do in the Keys, Drink, Snorkle, Drink, Fish, Sail, Drink, Scuba Dive, Pleasure Boating, Drink, Jet Ski, etc.........Did I mention Drink?
Seriously if you let us know what part I am sure many will chime in with things to do. Key West is an interesting place and if you are going there I would suggest the "SouthernMost Hotel" it is at the end of Duval Street and within walking distance to most bars etc.

Some friends of mine all rented a house 2 blocks from that hotel last year. Spent a week there. DRANK.... A LOT. If you go to key west and want to do the bar scene, there is a lot of history there. I would stay at the other end of Duval st tho. We walked forever. You can get a cab for cheap too. Definitely go to Irish Keven's, Sloppy Joe's (Hemingway's old stomping ground) and Captain Tony's (Buffett's first real gig in the keys read lyrics below)
"It was somewhere past dark-thirty
And I went back to the head
I read upon the dingy wall
The words the old man said:
I ate the last mango in Paris
Took the last plane out of Saigon
Took the first fast boat to China
And Jimmy there's still so much to be done "
Those words are actually written on the wall in the bathroom and inspired that song.
All thins thinking about it I want to go back now.

me and some fellow s2k members went down to key west in the beginning of the summer. be prepared to spend some money and make sure you book the hotel way in advance because they have all sorts of festivals that book up hotels very fast. i would suggest going down during fantasy fest in key west!

I'll definitely be going all the way down to Key West. And I will definitely be drinking the whole time I'm down there. Thanks for all the advice so far!

Just be careful in the 800 block of Duval st. It may look like a woman smell like a woman and talk like a woman but I assure you it is NOT of the female gender.... Originally anyways.
