Default Help with buying another S

I just drove a car I'm interested in putting on the track. Its a 2001 with 67,000 miles and rebuilt title. The rebuild part is fine with me but there were a few issues I had. He told me it may be a high performance clutch but it is very stiff going in and on release you realy have to let off a lot before the clutch petal starts to move out and ingage. Also, once it starts to ingage it ingages quick. Is this normal for after market clutch kit? If not, how much to install a new clutch? Or could it just need a fuild change?

Next is the head lights. Two times durning the drive one of the lights flickered real quick when I hit a bump. It did not do it on every bump but just two. Now when I turned on his street bringing it back from the road test the left head light just quit. Pulled it back in the garage and turned the car off. When we turned it back on 2 minutes later it came on but now the right head light went out. Both always had high beam though. What's the deal? Lights going bad, too cold, or loose ground?

Last, he did not know if the air bag was in the streering wheel or not. It felt like the passenger side air bag was there but unsure about the steering wheel. The SRS light on the dash stayed on the whole time. How do you check that? The center part of the steerign wheel looked like it was messed with and glued back together. CarFax said airbag deployed in 2004 in Georgia by the 3rd owner.

A salvage title was issued to Georgia by I guess a bank in Tampa then the car came to Nashville 6 to 11 months later and issued a rebuilt titel. The last owner in Nashville wrecked the front, quit making payments, bank repoed it, bank's insurance company fixed it then sold it at auction to the guy I met tonight.

Sorry for the long post but I tried to cover any questions that may be asked. Again, I appreciate any help, tips, advice you guys have.

Rob

The car is cheep, needs some work but not much just to put on the track. ANy input your guys have will be appreciated.

Is this the red one for under 10k ? If you're tracking it I would say forget about the airbags.

The lighting issue would scare me a bit. If it's a ballast or the bulb then no biggie but if there's other electrical problems it would make me dig deeper.

You might be interested in this one. My buddy sells cars a let me know about it. See below:

I was curious if you could post something advertising this vehicle on your message board (fan club you are a part of). It is a 2000 w/ only 39,000 miles. A lady that is likely going to buy a car from me is trying to sell it prior to buying. She claims the car is in perfect condition, rides and drives like it should etc., It has a salvaged title but the car appears to be in great condition. She loves the car but needs something bigger for her business.

She wants me to advertise it at $15,500. She would likely take a little less.

Contact him directly if interested or know someone that might be.

That car is mint but for a salvage title I wouldn't pay more than 12k...if that.

Clean title 01/02's are going for 14/15k

Rob, It might be worth it to get another look @ the Red one. If it's the one i'm thinking about 8900$ isn't a bad starting point. Especially if you're looking to wrench on a track car.

Screw that, I wouldn't even pay 12k for a salvage title. 8-10k for a salvage car. Jason sold his 01 for like 15k and his car was non-salvage with like 20k miles on the motor.

That one came up in one of my searches but the price with a salvage title wont go. I want mechanical good, cosmetic bad and high milage doesn't scare me. I won't pay or 10K for what ever I get. Dang, the trailer will cost another 3500 to 5000. I must have lost my mind.

If it's a track ho go as cheap as possible with a good motor/trans.

The more holes in the top, jacked up SRS or headlights the better. That means the purchase price should be lower

Motor felt strong and gears shifted fine. I didn't like the clutch though. Yes, the top is bad, not even sellable. Holes were patched, ugly, and some new ones started. He doesn't want to budge on the price though. He had 2 more calls on the car while I was there. Of course they could have been on the NSX.

Get this, he has Alice Cooper's 1991 Acura NSX. It has 80-90K miles and a rebuilt title but he will take 21K for it.

Haha no way!.

If I was serious and the car felt good I'd go with 8500$ and offer it. He'd be stupid not to take it and you'd get a better deal. Can't lose for that price.
