I'm pretty negative about stuff like this so I only see things getting worse... The problem for most people in this country, unlike Europe ( who I feel looks down their noses at us) is we don't have the option of hopping on a bike or taking the bus or getting on a train. My commute is 20 miles both ways. No buses, no trains & I'm not Lance Armstrong... something has got to give on this. Not everybody lives in a huge metropolitan area.

filled mine over the weekend and put 11.4 gallons in at 3.7something. it was around 42 bucks. I agree it sucks and it will get worse. I do feel better doing my fianances monthly/quarterly though. if gas goes up a dollar its an extra 12 bucks a fill up and i fill up about once a week (dont live far from work) so its only another 48 bucks a month in gas (48 x 12 months= $576 increase over py). The way i view it is there are a lot of unneeded expenses that I have that will make up the cost.

Im a firm believer its not going to get much better (maybe when the dollar rebounds as its weakness has a lot to do with the increased commidity costs) but it wont go back to 2 bucks. Ive just been finding other ways to cut costs to make it up.

And to your point Vad I think the europeans have reason to look down on us in regards to oil. Gas was over 8 dollars a gallon (once you do the conversion from litre to gallon and british pound to dollars) for over three years now. true they have public transit that makes our look like an embarrassment but that is shame on us. We were complaining at 2 dollars a gallon..........

We don't have one though and here's why to an extent: I drive 2 hours to get to Knoxville (if I haul ass) I drive 2 hours in Europe & I'm in another country. BIG DIFFERENCE. ( I realize you know this)

You go towards the midwest it only gets worse - very few people I know have short commutes - it is the nature of our geography. I'd love to live in Nashville, but the fact of the matter is - unless you are well off - you can't afford to. Soooo we have to live further and further our where housing is less $$$, but our commute increases...
