I was changing my oil last night and was wondering why my exhaust has this part on it. Does anyone know what it is for? It looks like some kind of resonance suppressor.
That is what people call the resonator. It is a Helmholtz resonator. A branch off the main piping placed at a specific point and made with a pre-determined length and diameter to reduce exhaust drone and manage pitch in a certain frequency range.
