Default windshield tape

I have created a self-imposed nightmare of a job for myself as a result... The tape came off in 4 pieces, however, the sticky residue left behind - is not. Goo-Gone is not working. I worked on a 2 inch section for over 30 minutes and the stuff ain't comin' off! I found only 3 threads regarding "how to" in the under the hood section - and there was a suggestion about a hairdryer and isopropyl alcohol - so I guess I'll try that - just kinda concerned that Goo-Gone had little or no effect on the adhesive residue...

A little hobby heatgun might work better, but you'd probably have to be real careful you don't melt something.

I used Goo gone on mine and it worked pretty well. What I found worked a little better was rubbing the Goo gone on and leting it "soak" for a little bit. It seemed to come off a little easier after it had sat for awhile. It still was a pain but I figured it was because my car was a few years old and I was doing it when it was cold. Good luck with it. Maybe someone else can tell you what worked for them.

1. Be patient.

2. Let the car sit out for a couple hours on a warm sunny day. Stay away from using a heat gun. You can easily melt paint and the rubber gasket seal around the windshield.

3. Goo-Gone will work. Apply it and let it sit for a minute. Apply more. Start to rub off using your fingernails to see if it is soft.

4. Apply more Goo-Gone and start rolling the glue into small balls and pull off.

5. Repeat 3-4 until it's all cleared.

IF you continue to rub the glue, all you will do is smear it and it will become sticky again once the goo-gone dries up. SO you must make an attempt to peel off as much as you can every time you apply the stuff.

It may take an hour when the paint is warm, but it will come off eventually.

Let's us know how it turns out.

IF you can post a pic of the current situation it may help to see how much glue you have left and how much elbow grease you will need to finish the job.

Good luck.

I could never pull the tape. I'd be too worried that underneath would be horrible and i'd have to get it painted. Although I think it looks great.

Oh dude you should have totally asked before doing this.

IT WAS A TOTAL BITCH!

But worth it. IMHO

I used an adhesive/tar remover that was "clear coat safe"

Id get it at the dealership I worked at. Still can get it.

It took it off REALLY WELL. Compared to Goo Gone, buy a heat gun, the hair dryer is FTL, as well as kissing your finger tips good bye.

If you wanna wait till the weekend or mid week I can meet you in clarksville with a can of the remover.

Duct Tape method -

Tried to be patient and went back to the Goo-Gone - (like mopping a dirt floor...)

Went and bought some Bug & Tar remover made by Turtle Wax (safe for clearcoat finishes) ... after about 30 minutes it got some off only to realize that the top section is scratched - probably the whole top section because I went around to the passenger side and worked some of the residue off on that side and the paint underneath is the same - scratched as if some one went over it w/sandpaper... the sides are completely fine.

hellooooo bodyshop - I need to address that big chip in the paint I made anyways...

I already have a nice 3/4' long 1/8" wide scratch that I want to get fixed so I might as well kill 2 birds w/1 stone - I like my car too much to do anymore experiments on it after having removed that tape.
