I haven't been able to convince myself that I can do the valve retainer replacement on my own.
So I'm looking for a shop that would be familiar with the process.

Any recommendations?

join the club. i'm looking to that, a valve adjustment, and an oil squirter upgrade on my early ap1. parts for the retainer replacement (do the intake side only) are around $230 last time i spec'd it out from majestic honda.

i don't have any suggestions as far as places to go, but please let me know if you do find a place

I've heard from this group JC Autospec and Flamingo Automative is good with S2000s, but never been myself. I had a disastrous valve adjustment done by Hondacure, so I'd like to find a local I can trust too.

I'm pretty sure the retainers/cotters was about $50 in parts. I bought the parts in anticipation of doing the job but on inspection my retainers look great. I've never misshifted and I've put on about 10k miles since I bought her, so if one was going to drop from a past mis-shift it probably would have already.

Sitting at JC Autospec Round Rock right now. First time and getting an alignment done. One of few places that can align my lowered car. Seems like a quality place so far. Tons of Miatas around, BBB sticker, etc. the also have S2KCA on their website.

My only issue is no weekend hours so I took time off work. They do have a late night drop off and shuttle, though.

There is a $15 off coupon for first time customers online.

I am also looking to get the retainers replaced soon and will probably end up doing it myself. However, I have done valve adjustments to my 01 already (twice) and I can help you out with that, I be more than willing to show you how it's done.

Group valve replacement with bananaz as the instructor? (I was thinking about doing this too; while I have the technical skill set, I'm still always a little wary of touching anything on my engine...)

EDIT: I've heard places like this are good if you don't have the tools / need to learn how to do something and don't have a garage.

Called JC Autospec on Wednesday. Didn't sound like the person I talked to was familiar with the procedure and hasn't called me back about a quote.

I'm probably just going to end up doing it myself as well.

Before moving to Austin I was a German mechanic for several years. Cody Red here will vouch for me i'm sure. My valve spring compressor won't fit, but a quality one is only $85. I'm located in south Austin off Slaughter. I can come to you if you have a decent garage. How many would be interested in getting theirs replaced?
