I have a camera mount I purchased from a member here for $25. I use a Canon HG20 recording to an SDHC card rather than the harddrive (the harddrive can't take the vibrations). I also use an external microphone so there's much less wind noise.

Edit: Oh yeah, forgot. Battery life on full 1080p HD @ 24Mbps will get you about 1.5 hours. Same for a 8GB SDHC card.

Some point-n-shoot cameras are decent but others like my Samsung NV24HD are horrible from the car's vibrations.

I have this, works really well. The hardest part is making sure the camera is small enough to see below the rear view mirror. The gopro cameras are awesome for car video.

I got mine from http://www.thebulletcam.com/. No, it's not HD (and the audio quality is pretty bad), but it works fine for re-living your track adventures, critiquing lines, etc. The battery can last over a full track weekend, and so can your memory w/ up to 16GB capacity. Best of all, it's only $89 incl. shipping.

The new Go Pro HD looks promising, but it's ~$300 IIRC.

@JustinC: I lost part of the mount on the modifry one that I got. I'd like to test it out w/ the Canon I have now b/c it shook like crazy w/ the point-n-shoot I had (but that ended up being the camera's fault). It's a quality product.

@Chris: Oh yeah, forgot about battery life. I edited my post above for the Canon. That's great how the battery life on that can last the whole day. I'm lucky to get 1.5 hours on full 1080p HD on both the battery and my 8GB SDHC card.

Adolfo, I was just thinking that I wouldn't mind upgrading to a Go Pro HD.

Let me know if you're interested in a deal on my bulletcam + Panavise mount - barely used (2 events), I've only had it about a month.

A go pro hero HD is awesome, but the sound may or may not impress you. One thing to remember is are you taking video to study your driving or to make a cool video, they are two different things.

If you are shooting to make a cool video I think the hero is awesome hands down. If you are shooting to study your video, just make sure the audio is good in the place you want to mount the camera.

RavynX's setup works for both since he has the remote microphone setup, which I think it great.

I will post some clips soon. However I am editing a whole show for ctxracing.com that will better illustrate my own use of the go pro hero hd.

I just checked out some of their footage and it looks awesome! Much better than their first version. I still wish it had an external mic input for sound.
