Default Hardtop opinions needed

What is your opinion of this from the Hardtopguy.com site. Is 3500.00 about right for a new OEM with all hardware!
Adrian, being you have a lot of experience, value your opinion.
Great seeing everyone at BWW... Let's have a good showing at Coffee n Rides this month.

Thanks guys

The top weighs 44lbs and is made out of aluminum with a glass rear window with defogger. Fully trimmed black interior. Manufactured at the same factory as the S2000 and painted to match with the same paint and process. Simple 4-point lever operation makes removal and reinstall easy. The top comes with all necessary hardware for installation on a 2002-2009 model year vehicle. If you have a 2000-2001 model year vehicle, then you'll need to purchase additional parts if you want the defroster on the hardtop to work. The tops are Special Ordered for you and thus they are Non-returnable and Non-cancellable.

$3500.00

COLORS AND QUANTITIES AVAILABLE

3 New Formula Red
2 Rio Yellow
1 Chicane Silver

I never got the whole hardtop thing. I bought the car b/c of it's handling characteristics and the convertible feature. People that I talk to with CRs are envious of us with softtops. As for the price that's high but not too bad for brand new. Otherwise you're playing the waiting game to get either a red/black/silver one. Otherwise you have to paint it to match your car with an uncommon hardtop color (yellow/blue/white).

I dont envy your softop...

OEM hardtops are worth every penny... Its a wise investment, Even if you turn around and sell it in the event that you arent satisfied with it
you are still going to make a pretty good penny on it. It enhances the look of the car and reduces road noise slightly. Its the best top out there
as far as installation & fitment. I paid 2k for a used one but I also had to wait a couple of months to find this deal and had to drive to Roswell NM to pick up the top. $3500 is good for a new top that doesnt need to be painted.

Thanks. I guess I need to make a decision. Don't know if I will have this type of opportunity again; once these are gone.

The OEM hardtop is worth every penny and retains its value over time. If you ever run into a serious pinch, you can guarantee to get your money back. You can find them cheaper than $3500 but they usually won't come in red or with the hardware (rear side catchers). 1 OEM one usually comes up for sale per month, but they usually sell within a week so keep your eyes peeled. I will let you know if I find one on ebay or the forum because I'm always on.

As you can see by Dre's and my response, hardtops are definitely a personal choice. Hard tops will be more difficult to come by as the years go on since S2000 production stopped 2 years ago. If you're not in a rush I would just post a Want To Buy (WTB) ad here in the main marketplace or just wait for a used one to show up in your color. You just have to ask yourself if you really want the hardtop. You either get a hardtop for (1) Looks, personal taste (2) Track Aero or (3) Wind Noise Reduction for long trips.

Personally I prefer the OEM hardtop, I think the S looks sexier with the OEM hardtop, than topless. The great thing - it's not permanently mounted to the car, and can be easily removed when you feel the need for a top down cruise. I've noticed OEM hardtops retain their value when sold separate and increase/hold the value your S if you wish to sell the car in the future.

For car shows and meets I would leave it on, for track and hill country cruises I would take it off. If I could only sell the Rolla I might be able to swing a hardtop.

I have such bad luck with used. Whenever I go with used, I always end up paying more in the end. I saw some pics from a guy who bought from Hardtopguy... a crate. right from the factory. that new car smell.. If you know of any tops her in SA that are in good shape, let me know otherwise, I will go with hardtopguy should I decide to pull the trigger on this thing.

Adrian, if I go for it, would you help me install...

thanks guys.

Sure, I don't mind giving the AP2 a try - I followed these instructions - - - https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/540...top-with-pics/
