After 3 months of searching for one I finally got a 2.0 liter Blue. The owner, whose driver-daughter is in Cambridge UK now, drove it up last Thursday and met me at my credit union. He treated me to lunch at County Line and then we went to Howdy to visit Chris Hobbick to get the warranty transferred. Then I drove him back to his house in Missouri City before I headed back at about 7 PM(long day it was). Just getting out of Houston some Mustang guy was revving his engine while he and his girlfriend were trying to egg me on. Little did he know that whenever I am in Houston I am at that moment trying to leave it as quickly as possible.
I tried to talk him down to 20,500, but with that warranty I think 21k is fair. The car was inspected by http://www.proautoinspectors.com/ and they sent me a full report with pics that indicated no probs with the car except of course for the rear tires.
I got an insurance quote from Progressive - $1250/year for the S and GTI, full coverage, $500 deductible. Much less than Geico offered me. Maybe S ownership isn't such a financial burden after all.
Anyway after all this time it was weird to finally own an S - it attracts much more attention than any car I've had. Coworkers, neighbors, roommates, friends all seem to like it and anyone of any age who is a Honda owner just adores it. Even the Ducatti owner at my work with no license wanted to drive it; I told him no thank you. I will be keeping it garaged 100% of the time at my house as it is not safe to keep any convertible out on the street around here.
I have other things S related to think about soon enough - waxing, sound system, tires, etc. - but right now I just want to enjoy the driving the car.
Oh and thanks for all the free advice with my long meandering thread: rickycrx, Tx_Phantom, meriggi, and TheWendysGuy.
Clean looking car! Congratulations on the end of a long search. I was the same way back in '96/'97 trying to find a clean CRX in one of two specific colors I wanted. It's such a great feeling to finally find it, even if you have to make a long trip to get it.
Sounds like you made a good choice at a fair price. The warranty will give you piece of mind, and if you have it, you may not need it!
If you need rear tires, you may want to start thinking about new wheels too. You'll definatly want to go to 18's!
Congrats and good luck!
