Smile Incident on I-35

Around 3am this morning, I was driving south on I-35 (top-down), somewhere near St. Edwards Univ. I was driving on the far left lane, when suddenly something hits my windshield head-on and splatters brownish liquid everywhere.

After coming home and checking out the damage, I realize it was a rotten egg. By the way the egg hit, I guess that it came from oppossing traffic from the other side of the freeway (and because I didn't go under any bridge.. and I think I was far enough away from cars in front of me for this to happen like it did).

Long story short, the egg took out chunks of paint and made very noticeable scratches on my hood, and spread its guts all over the hood, windshield, wipers, inside the engine bay a little bit, and down the inside cracks of the door. After immediate hand washing, and taking it to a car wash the morning after, there's still some bits and pieces of goo leftover that I couldn't clean off and there's a slight smell that still lingers.

Apparently this has been happening to others, as a guy at the car wash told me there were at least another 4-5 cars that came in who had eggs thrown on their cars too.

Not much I can do now but accept the damage.. and look into a new hood I guess

Anyone happen to know a good body shop that could fix the damage? Looks like the clearcoat on my paint is permanently damaged.

I called my insurance (Progressive) and it seems like they may cover it. They have their own service center / body shop on Lamar, but I wasn't sure if I should just go ahead and use them, or go with a different body shop.

Thanks.

Jeff's Auto Body on N. Lamar is great, but not fast. Def. recommended if you have rental coverage or other transportation.

Sorry to hear about the damage, what a bunch of assholes!

Thanks for the referral. I'll contact them and see what they can do.
I have rental coverage, so timeliness shouldn't be a problem (as long as it doesn't take TOO long!)

BTW - since I've been meaning to get a cf hood, should I go through insurance if I decide to just replace the hood altogether? I've never made a damage claim before, so I'm not familiar w/ the process and what I can/cannot do.

Thanks.

Doesn't get much worse than egg damage ... happened to my old 4runner back in Louisiana ... not really fixable unless you repaint.

Sorry to here of your misfortune. I hate bastards that have nothing else better to do than run around throwing eggs at cars.
