My air pump is on its way out and a member in Cali has a used one. Parted out his entire car from what I see. Anyway, it is off his 2002 AP1 and wants $200 shipped for it. New they are around $475. I know nothing about such things so I do not know if a 5 year old air pump is worth buying or should I just get new.

Advice would be appreciated.

wow... The emissions air pump that cycles on when the car is cold?? I've never heard of one of those failing, even on higher mileage cars.

What makes you think there's a problem with it?

A quick search reveals multiple problems with the Air pump. Some threads call it the "reoccuring problem with failing air pumps". I need to disconnect mine and see if the start up noise goes away.

 

get it new. 5 years on an air pump.. jeez.

 

If you disconnect it, is there a chance it could throw a check engine light on you?

 

The light will come on, but I can at least for sure isolate the problem.
