S2000 dyno day! Sat, May 11...
When: Saturday, May 11, 10:00 AM
Where: 808 McPhaul - Click here for a MAP
Telephone#: 512-834-8771
Well, it's on (finally). My friend Justin works at a local shop here called Pro-tech, and he's opening the shop on Saturday for a local dyno day.
For those of you who don't know how this works, a dyno is basically a $50,000 instrument to measure how much engine power you are making at various RPMs (minus drivetrain losses).
The way it works is, your car is strapped down to a giant rolling cylinder with fixed mass. When you floor it in gear, samples are taken and you will receive a plot for your horsepower and torque curves.
A dyno measurement is good if you plan on making modifications, both as a baseline (before) and to confirm power gains (after). I was losing power from improperly adjusted valves, and proved it with a dyno measurement (got a free valve adjustment afterwards). Plus, it'll be fun to get together and see how everyone's cars and modifications stack up to each other.
The event is going to be held at ProTech automotive near Lamar and Braker.
I don't know the specifics of Randy's problems and prior dealings with this shop, but I do know that Justin is a stand-up guy with a good head on his shoulders. We are also going to get the best price (I checked with other shops.)
Final price will depend on number of cars, but I estimate $55 for three pulls.
Please reply if you plan on attending, or are thinking about it so we can get a head count.

P.S. Non-S2000's are Welcome to attend so spread the word! No AWD, though!

Unfortunately, not having a AWD dyno will not help with the incoming Evo, STi, and other newer sport compacts that are coming with AWD. That will hurt business, as these new machines (and current ones, Audi, WRX/RS, etc) are very "tuner friendly".
I'm done.
They'd probably lose much more money buying a new AWD dyno than the amount of business they'll lose by not getting one. Imagine how many years it'd take for them to regain the amount they paid to purchase it in AWD dynos...
I'm game for the dyno though.

You know my call on this, Joe. And I can only add this much to the thread - Pro-Tech sold me back stolen property, whether or not they actually took the property or not is a different issue. Its just something to think about when you are supporting a company that did approximately $9,000.00 in damage to my car or at least supported the efforts of thieves by reselling stolen property.
I find it quite appauling that you are actually holding this dyno day at that shop.

Just got off the phone with Justin. I confronted him directly about this. He said he doesn't know the specifics but will find out. He says that they are a legitimate business and they do not deal in stolen goods.
If you would like to find out yourself, call Pro-tech at Tel. 512-834-8771, or Justin's personal phone # is 512-791-4012.
Imagine if some punks stole your CDs and sold them to a used records store. Just because you find your stolen CDs there does not automatically incriminate the business.
This shop has one of 3 Dyno-jet Dynamometers (top of the line) in town, and is going to give us the best price. Unless I hear specific evidence (from Randy or Justin) that this shop knowingly participated in illegal activities, the dyno day is still on.

Randy,
Are you the owner of the red S2000 that I put the Sparco seat in? I have the white Supra, I talked to you out at TWS at the last John Eagle event. I had no idea that there were any bad feelings between us. I am looking into the origin of the seats that you purchased now and I should have answer soon. If there was any doubt or speculation as to the origin of the seats, why didn't you come forward earlier? I have no intention of selling stolen goods of any kind to anybody. We are a business that grossed well over 2 million dollars last year, and I wouldn't want to jeopardize that in any way. If you want to give me a call, please feel free.
Joseph,
Thanks for letting me know about the thread and I hope to see alot of you guys out here this weekend. BTW, the dyno was more than 30,000 with wide-band, lift, Dyno-Trac, etc
closer to 50,000
It's the latest machine/software offered(which the other places in town do not have
)
