Default Some AutoCross Events in July

There are two AutoCross events coming up for the month of July.

The first one is the SASCA (San Antonio Sports Car Association) July 9th AutoCross and Blossom Athletic Center. You should plan to get there around 8:00am-8:30am to register, get your car tech inspected, and walk the course.

The next event is with the Texas Spokes car club out of Austin the following Sunday at River City Raceway in Marion, TX on I-10 East going towards Houston. It is located at the "Santa Clara" exit, about 8-10 miles outside 1604. Again, you should plan to arrive around 8:00am or so to register, get teched, etc.

Both events should probably run until around 4-5pm in the afternoon. Bring LOTS of water, shade (umbrellas, canopy, etc), SUNSCREEN, perhaps lunch too, and your registration fee for each club. SASCA charges $25 for non-members, $20 for members. Spokes I think has the same price structure.

I will be at both events with my red CRX, so just look for the red CRX that is about 2 inches off the ground with wheels that stick out beyond the fenders and makes a reasonably large amount of noise... That'll be mine. :-)

Interesting. Might be fun to take the old S on the old SO4s out to Blossom. What's the pavement surface like out there? Asphalt or concrete? Gravelly (like Min Wells where knobbies are an advantage)?

Is SASCA fairly well organized? I've always been impressed with how NTS2KOC puts on an event with 8 runs per driver and is done by 3:30 in the afternoon. There are other sports car clubs (not mentioning names) that turn a whole Sunday into 3 minutes of seat time that you regret, due to their poor organization / planning (timing batteries going dead w/no replacements, generator running out of gas & barfing the computer, timing equipment electricals held together by duct tape...)

I ran with Spokes in the early '90s and really enjoyed their events and comaraderie. Good folks & pretty well-organized for an independent. Interested to hear if they're well organized as well -- with Vitek's AXware running the equipment they have to be in pretty good shape from that perspective.

Thanks,
Stanford

SASCA is definitely well organized. We've come a LONG way as a club since I started; especially since we have much better equipment than we used to.

We've grown tremendously in membership and regularly have turnouts with 70+ drivers now and still manage to get 6-8 runs and be done by around 4:00-4:30 in the afternoon.

Blossom's pavement is asphalt, not concrete. However, it is probably some of THE stickiest asphalt surfaces I have run on. Even one of my coworkers had a hard time getting his horrid all-seasons to break loose on his wife's WS-6 that he brought out there. We also use AXWare for our timing software and have a JACircuits timer that we're actually getting ready to replace in the near future. I'm the equipment chair for the club so I have to make sure things are working properly.

You should have a good time out there; if you come out, look for me. I'm usually around the trailer setting up in the mornings and will be racing my red CRX with the number '45' on it.

Stanford - I would echo Ricky's comments on SASCA. They have come a long way since I started running with them, and have become a pretty well oiled machine.

As a BOD member for Spokes, I would also endorse our events in the same manner. We easily got 6 runs in each last month and were done by 330 or so. We do accept alot more entrants than the NTS2KOC guys mainly because site rental for us is alot more expensive than Mineral Wells is, and we need to subsidize costs. But, due to location we rarely have more than 90, and usually have 70 or so entrants, making it easy to get morning and afternoon runs in, with a lunch break. The coursemap is up at http://www.spokes.org/Maps/SARAX3.ppt We'd love to have you come out

haha, yep... That's my car. It's a pretty rediculous car. I saw you come out to the last event and watch for a little while and then leave. I was going to try to go over there, but you were heading out when I saw you again. Come on over and check it out if you'd like. I'll even let you go for a ride-along if you want.

Better yet, bring your S2k out and run it; I'll ride along with you and help give you some pointers/instruction out there as well.

Well, how was the event??? Was the course long (how long), and was it well engineered (fun, challenging, not dangerous)?

Wish I could've made it. Clovis & I talked about going but Sondra & I had company arriving earlier than previously expected that weekend. Hope to catch you guys out somewhere maybe in early Oct after the July - Sept sauna season. Doing goofy hours with my new yob anyway, so have some fun out there....

Best,
Stanford

Well I missed out on this one. Im never good at getting up so early. anyway I would love to come out and give it a shots sometime, but Ive been getting ready for vegas thats coming up and I got to Install 4.57 gears on my S2k and Working on my 1990 Eclipse GSX so I got my hands full at the moment. But I would love to ride along one day. That CRX looks so sick as it hauls around the track heh.
