Garage is definitely the best alarm.

Hey 05BerlinaFan, do you live in the Shavano Village apts? My GF lives there. I saw you replaced your top and was sick to see it slashed again. Sorry to see it.
Yup that's me, with the miles of strapping tape stuck to the top of the top. Figured that would be the best patch until my new top comes in (ordered today and should be delivered via air tomorrow). I would have moved out and into a house but breaking my lease wasn't an option as I didn't want to pay up on the reletting fees etc. and still be responsible if it didn't release. Now, I wish I had as this is getting friggin rediculous. Oh well, only 1 more week here and then I'll be up in Indiana with a house and garage.

P.S. I found out that my renter's insurance will cover the stolen cd's. I'm not sure how much they will cover but atleast it will be something.

Yes. I do have a hardtop. I got it last summer. Did leave a bit early. Had to get back to town. It took me a bit longer to get home. I'm not used to driving as fast as some of you guys. If there were spiders in my exhaust the cobs are blown out now. Had a good time.
DAMN... let me barrow the hard top one day!!!!

I don't work at Gunn. I've talked to that guy however. I was in there getting my oil changed one day and got the chance to see his hardtop. I had to have one after seeing his. I thought it would be a good investment to protect the soft top.

I would think that an excess of crime and insufficient security is a pretty good (ie, legal) reason to break your lease.

Talk to a lawyer - a quick letter from them to your apartment lease management should suffice. Normally, if they see a lawyer's letterhead, they let it slide. That's what a friend of mine did and they didn't say a word or complain - they let them break the lease without issue nor did they have to pay reletting fees or penalties.

Apartment garages don't mean anything either. Mine got broken into and thieves stole my bike. Disc Lock, Alarm and All. Really wishing I had bought that Lojack....Apartment not really forthcoming in helping me secure the garage after the break in either.

Some apartments have garages that are attached to the unit itself... Others are buildings that are separate from the buildings where the people live. I can see where those would be less secure and more easily broken into, since nobody would likely hear or see anything.

Good luck getting the car and/or yourself moved to a more secure location.

Apartment garages do mean something. For a casual theif it will push them to the easiest target. It's like alarm-no alarm etc. You have to make it as hard as possible.

Now, if YOU are specifically targeted (they want YOUR stuff and have seen it go into the garage blah blah), then protection measures are not as useful. I had my car broken into 3 times in my 20's. I also had a stereo system that I would drive around town, mall, apartment complex adverstising at about 110Db ;-) I would even place stickers on my car advertising (JL Audio, Phoenix Gold). It was really like a shopping list! I was specifically targeted for sure.
