"In the state of Texas, you need insurance and a license for any scooter in any size engine. Scooter below 50cc's are considered mopeds and require a moped license. You can acquire this license my simply taking a written test at the DMV. Scooters over 50cc's (motorcycle driver's license which includes a written test as well as a driven test. The driven test can be substituted by a motorcycle safety course."

So you got your Ruckus and dont know what to do first. Here is a small list of basic mods to help get you going.

Variator:
A variator is what I recommend you get 1st.Basically you have a variator from the factory with 7 gram weights. With an aftermarket variator you get sets of lighter weights. The lighter ones you put in,the more acceleration you get.You can even mix them up to alter the effects. The changes are VERY noticeable.

Lowered seat frame:
The seat frame is the part holding the seat cushion. From the factory its pretty high.Kinda looks like a baby chair. Most lowered seat frame are 3-1/4 inches lower. It looks much better and helps your feet touch the ground if your shorter.

Handle bars:
Now that you have a lowered seat, your handle bars will be too tall! Find a aftermarket clamp like a Kijima and a set of handle bars.Combined with lowered seat and the riding feels way better.

Air filters & Main/Slow jet sets:
You can get rid of the stock airbox and clean up the look by getting a set of 3 air filters. The install is pretty easy. Here is the catch. All Rucks will react differently to mods. When messing with intakes or exhaust you MIGHT have to change out your fuel jets inside your carb.Just order a set to be safe.Sizes should be 35,38,40,42 and 75,78,80,83,85,88,90

Rear shock:
The factory shock sucks pretty much. After you get rid of your stock airbox you can run pretty much all shocks.Just double check the description because there is some that only work on extended Rucks.Avoid the "Swift" brand shock.

Exhaust:
This will help you gain some speed too.Just like I said before, you might and probably will have to swap in jets to get the right fuel mix.

CDI:
Now that your Ruckus is going way faster than the stock 40mph you are prob hitting the rev limit by now.Usually its around 44-45mph.So you should get a CDI next.Basically it removes your limiter. There is different models you can choose from. Some with a higher limit, some with no limit.

Once you get the basics down you can move on to the more hardcore stuff like big carb kits, frame extensions, etc.

The store list is posted, compare prices on everything.

Ruckus Maintenance

1. Manual says 10-40w oil for the engine. It says to change it at 600 miles the first time, then every 3000 miles or something. Most people around here check it right after they buy it new from a dealer since its over filled and change it ASAP. I just drained it to a normal level and then changed it at 500 miles the first time. I change it every 1000 miles after

2. Gear oil is like 3000-5000 miles or more according to manual who knows. Its about $9 for a quart of 75-90w mobil 1 synthetic gear oil, which will get you 9-10 changes. i change it every 1000 miles.

3. Spark plug I change in the spring 1 time a year when i pull it out of storage. Change as needed

4. Air filter i change in the spring 1 time year when i pull it out of storage. Change as needed

5. Fuel Filter, change as needed, probably 1 time a year or X amount of miles depending on if you are running many miles a year.

6. Drive belt will last you maybe 4000-5000 miles at most, when it gets below 17 mm in width change it.

7. Rollers will last you between 0-10000 miles....if you ride forever and only stop for gas you may never wear a flat spot on them. If you ride 1 block at a time and stop and go and stop...you will need to change them often.

8. Tires last about 5000 miles for rear, 10000 or more front, change as needed. Keep filled at 25 psi for optimal ride and wear.

9. Some people check timing right off the bat. The manual says check at 15k miles. There are tutorials here how to do that.

10. Changing the head lights/tail lights/turn signals when they burn out is best for optimal performance.

11. Washing the ruckus when it gets dirty helps it get clean. Wash as needed.
